Glee singing

I've been catching up with the season of Glee on Sky +.
What have they done to those 'kids' voices??? They're so computerised they all sound like robots.

Kind of defeats the point of the show if you can't even enjoy the singing. It was particularly jarring in the Rachel/new girl Lady Gaga sing-off and whenever Finn sings.

So far I've FFing 90% of the songs. What a waste.

It bugs me that they mime. And some of them are brutal at it.

anonacfr · 08/02/2011 12:18

I know. Just watching the Duets ep. Mercedes and her partner dancing like crazy while singing perfectly without even pausing for breath. Absurd.

Did they use to mime at the beginning of the series? I could have sworn they did some singing.
I mean Finn was so bad there's no way it couldn't have been him singing.

They mime, but it is their own recorded voices. And it is all meant to be fun you know!

Their own recorded voice that have been completed re-masterised and sanitised, a la Cheryl Cole on the X Factor.
Yes it's meant to be fun, but the singing (which is the point of the show) is turning out to be most distracting thing about it.

It's called Auto-tune and it's just one of many reasons why Glee is a hot, sweaty, steaming pile of shite.

ThatllDoPig · 08/02/2011 21:35

Aw, everyone knows its shite, but good escapist shite, like any musical really.

BunnyLebowski · 08/02/2011 22:15

No. Glee is in no way 'like any musical really'.

Speaking as a film-obsessive since the age of 6 I politely say STFU.

Singing in the rain, Guys and Dolls, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, A Star is Born, High Society, Hello Dolly, An American in Paris, The Blues Brothers, Hairspray, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, The Producers. These are musicals.

Glee is musical entertainment for half-wits.

It is fundamentally devoid of soul, passion or originality. The acting is abysmal. The plots are non-existent. The supposedly 'subversive' Su Sylvester is a mirage of a character with 2 lines repeated over and over again (Anyone who has seen Best in Shoe or Waiting for Guffman is like me wondering why Jane Lynch has done herself such a disservice).

It

ThatllDoPig · 08/02/2011 22:17

What is STFU?! dare I ask?

COCKadoodledooo · 08/02/2011 22:21

It means oh do be quiet. Only in slightly less polite language.

I like Glee for the escapism (and some of the boymenfolk Blush). The dubbing is SHITE!

ThatllDoPig · 08/02/2011 22:24

oh! I see.

Anyone else feel a song coming on . . .!

BunnyLebowski · 09/02/2011 00:04

God...people are pure idiots.

anonacfr · 09/02/2011 07:59

It was good last season. It's obviously run its course now.
The only decent character is Kurt.

I usually love tv like this but I couldn't even manage a whole series of Glee cos the singing was so annoying.
I know it's meant to be fun etc but I found it so jarring that they allegedly burst into song, yet their voices change completely, as if they're singing in another room, and the miming is really badly done. Yet another programme that should have quit while ahead
