One Born Every Minute - Who's had a Forceps Delivery?

Mum of 3 fortunately all text book natural un aided deliveries.
I've just watched tonights One Born Every Minute and the forceps delivery, I am stunned!
The midwife seems to be putting her back into it, dragging the baby out, is that okay for the baby? How is it possible the baby isn't born with neck injuries?
Also mom, doesn't having 2 metal tongs inside you not shred and bruise you?
Tell me please, I was totally grimacing as if I were there.

I had a forceps delivery 10 weeks ago and it has caused a lot of damage. I am still in a lot of pain from it and have been left with a rectocele and prolapsed piles as well as a lack of bladder control SadBlush

DS seems to have difficulty turning his head to the left so I am taking him to an osteopath next week to see if they can sort it out for him.

I cannot watch OBEM because I had a grim birth nearly 6 yrs ago. Even though I went on to have a brilliant birth 2 yrs ago, I can't shake all my ghosts and watch this.

Assisted deliveries and emCS have resulted in a lot of damage to mums and babies but this is not the thread to debate stuff like this tonight.

I had forceps with my first (ds), was very sore for a long time afterwards, but thought this was normal until I had babies 2 and 3!! Ds was fine though, although he had bright red marks on his cheeks for a few days and was very crotchety the day after, which the midwife said was probably due to his head aching from the forceps Sad.

I had a forceps delivery with DS1 just over four years ago and looking at these posts I think I was one of the lucky ones.

I have suffered no lasting side effects. It was painful straight after birth for a few weeks but nothing out of the ordinary and no real difference from my totally unaided textbook birth of DS2 almost three years ago.

Painwise for me I felt nothing as I had already had an epidural and so they just gave me a spinal block as well.

As far as I know they do not do forceps birth without an epidural in an operating theatre, or maybe that is just something where I live ?

DS1 had no marks on him after the birth and seemed to be fine, not grouchy or anything untoward either.

My forceps delivery was done without an epidural and not in theatre so might be just your area Sparkle.

Mine was done without epidural and in the delivery room but was performed by a registrar.

Yes DD was forceps 13 years ago. No problems for either of us. DH said he could believe how carefully they did it. I think in a way he found it the most stressful. Two years on DS was ventouse.
