I found it and gave it a try on the iPlayer (I have a lot of long train journeys). It is hilarious! It might not even be shown outside Scotland.

It's about soldiers (Disclaimer: I have no connection with the armed forces and haven't a clue what actual soldiers would think of it, and wouldn't want to watch something about soldiers that real soldiers would find offensive) but isn't laddish.

Gary is just such a great character. In fact I've been doing him round the house "Cam orn! We've gotta watch GARREEEHHH!!" Cried with laughter at his Lady Gaga in Series 2!

I found this series on iplayer this week. I love it! It's such a good comedy. My husband and I watched the whole of series 2 in a couple days. :)

The pilot, Gary's War, is available on 4 On Demand. I missed series 1 on the Beeb, though did see the highlights programme at Xmas.

We are in Essex and watch it. I love it. DH is Scottish and the inlaws got us in to it.

I love GARRRRRYYY ... but doncha think he may be ever so slightly ... you know .. on the other bus ...?? he's very camp ..

Gary Tank commander is fab! I love it. I love the fact that the characters talk fairly like real people, i.e. sometimes a load of rubbsih, not every word is there to drive the 'plot' forward. My fave is one from series 1 aboutr the fire engines. So so funny

JoBettany · 05/02/2011 22:04

I posted on here a while back, having just discovered it. It's so funny! I stay up now on a Monday to watch a new episode. Would recommend it highly to anyone who hasn't seen it before. Just hilarious.

I think my favourite one was from this series when they were roped in to help the chef at a regimental dinner.

So glad other people found it and love it! Trying to persuade DP but he's not mad about it (what's wronnnng wi ye?!)

yeah I think Garehhhh's kind of neutral, I love it when the other lads start getting a bit saucy and it goes completely over his head!

My favourite is the one where they lose the tank. And I love Julie...Actually even his ringtone makes me laugh.

I loved the one where they lost the tank as well, I was wetting myself when Julie was telling them to take a bin lorry back with them cos it looks a bit like a tank Grin.

Love it Love it and DH is ex squaddie and says that all those short little videos are so real like and the sort of thing that he used to do when in.

We find it so funny and love the fact that it seems so real.

Just a quick question the officer that is in it did he used to be in Balmory.

Jbck · 15/02/2011 14:56

The Major isindeed Archie the Inventor

mumwhereareyou · 15/02/2011 16:22

Thanks Jbck, thought he was but my DC are too old for Balamory.

StickyProblem · 15/02/2011 21:17

I just watched the one where they are in the advert...brilliant...and I love Gary's dad, you can see where he gets, er, "it" from!

Just hope it comes back soon!!

Archie/Captain Fanshaw was one of the civil servants in Made in Dagenham too - he's everywhere at the moment.

One of the kids at dts's school does a brilliant impression of Gary's "Hiya!"

Love the short where they taped Charlie sleeping with Gary saying the whole "for only £2 per month you could save..." bit only for Charlie at the very end to say "make it a fiver!"

AgentProvocateur · 15/02/2011 23:48

My not-so-DS has downloaded the GTC app onto my phone.

Jbck · 16/02/2011 16:13

DH and his colleague have taken to answering the phone with similar quips. He says it's amazing how many people say 'Hi Gary can I speak to so&so' despite there not being a Gary in the company.
