I like the look of it very much, I just hope its not one of those over hyped shows like, dare I say it, Mad Men?

Me! But I'll have to get it on DVD because I don't have Sky

kittya · 30/01/2011 22:31

OP posts:
Coleysworth · 30/01/2011 22:32

kittya · 30/01/2011 22:36

I'm pretty sure Sky Atlantic won't be available on freeview :(

I'm always about 72 years behind with these things though so I don't mind waiting for the DVD release too much

lilyliz · 31/01/2011 17:20

I will be watching, went to a free preview in Glasgow and they showed first 2 episodes, looked good, yes will be the sky 3(108) channel.

AMumInScotland · 31/01/2011 17:29

They are moving all the channels round on Sky. Did you not get a leaflet in your last magazine? All the HD versions of Sky channels are moving up to lower numbers, and the normal versions are going to bigger numbers. So, 106 will be Sky 1 HD, and the ordinary version of Sky 1 will move. And they are slotting Sky Atlantic HD into 108 and moving Sky 3 somewhere else.

Supposedly anything you have scheduled to record will just magically move....

Mirage · 31/01/2011 18:48

I will-apparently Omar from The Wire is in it.I liked Omar.

PfftTheMagicDragon · 31/01/2011 18:57

I think it's dull. Have seen a few episodes and have given up.

It's slick and well put together. It looks absolutely fantastic and the cast is impressive. But it watched like it has no soul. It's just fine. And you would hope for more.

kittya · 31/01/2011 19:48

These things get so hyped up. I'm still ploughing through Mad Men because I feel I have to.

OP posts:
midnightexpress · 31/01/2011 19:53

I agree Pfft. It's OK but not brilliant. It's also really violent and the women's roles are a bit crap, IMO. I'm a bit over the glossed-up violence thang, meself. And if you're only watching it to see the return of Omar, I wouldn't bother - he's not in it that much in the episodes I've seen so far (about the first 8 or so).

MrsDrOwenHunt · 31/01/2011 20:02

they have promised the first series of the wire too!!

kittya · 31/01/2011 20:13

That's another one I didn't get what the fuss was about!

OP posts:
midnightexpress · 31/01/2011 22:01

Ohnonononono Kittya. The Wire is the best thing that's ever been on TV ever. Worth sticking it past the first few episodes. Mos' def (as they say in West Baltimore).

kittya · 31/01/2011 23:04

That's exactly it! I could never hear/understand what they were saying!

OP posts:
PfftTheMagicDragon · 01/02/2011 07:27

The Wire is possibly the best television show ever. The language - you just need to get into in and get used to it. I thought it was fantastic, I was so thrilled when I discovered it. It was like finding a secret level of television.

Mad Men is excellent.

PfftTheMagicDragon · 01/02/2011 07:29

midnight, I agree about the violence and the female characters. Unfortunately though, the female characters seem to be something of a weak point for most US drama. Certainly The Walking Dead was probably the worst offender.

I found that with BoredWalk Empire, that we never saw enough of the interesting stories. In the first few episodes, I was interested more in the Capone and Jimmy stuff, and all we get is Buscemi being Buscemi.

kittya · 01/02/2011 10:44

I watched another episode of Mad Men last night, its series two Im on and apparently, I heard series three was not as good. I am sticking with it as I love the era and the lantern jaw!!

The trouble is with the Wire etc, its great when they are on from the beginning but they take up so much of your life!! No wonder Im getting fater Smile

Is the Sopranos worth watching?

OP posts:
joydivisionovengloves · 01/02/2011 10:56

Yes The Sopranos is definitely worth watching. Second only to The Wire IMO but you'll find it easier to understand what they are saying!

verytellytubby · 01/02/2011 18:43

Can't wait!
