Corrie- Eileen and Julie are sisters?

After a couple of years overseas, I've started watching Corrie again in the last few months and have got my head round all the storylines (even the ridiculous John as bumbling serial killer) but this is new.

Eileen and Julie don't seem to interact much, but then in the last episode when they broke into Owen's yard, it was all "Ooh, well we are sisters"

Really? I thought Julie came into the Street as Kirk's holiday romance? Can anyone explain?

Yes - she turned up as Kirk's holiday romance. But after a while she discovered that her Mum, Paula, had been Eileen's best friend at school. Paula visited, and among other things, Eileen was teasing her about the big mystery of who Julie's father was (Paula had disappeared from school when the pregnancy became obvious, hence lack of contact until his reunion via Julie). Eileen thought it was a teacher - hence secrecy and scandal.

It turned out it was Eileen's father. So yes, half sisters.

Yes... Eileen's dad was an old cad.
