These Sunday night type series seem to run for about 5 years and then they start something else. I missed it so far this series, what is going on?

lizziemun · 22/01/2011 13:26

Not surprised either.

I just wish they stop wasting money on remakes of remakes.

That's be another night with nothing worth watching on the bbc.

scrappydappydoo · 22/01/2011 13:45

Not surprised but will miss it as its no-brainer sunday night viewing. Larkrise then wild at heart Grin
Looking forward to seeing how they televise call the midwife though

MrsThisIsTheCadillacOfNailguns · 23/01/2011 19:44

Lark Rise was a big disappointment IMO.It lacked the edge of the book,it seemed all pretty pretty, roses around the door.I loved the 'midwife' books and look forward to seeing it televised.

feedme · 23/01/2011 21:55

I'm glad, it was a terrible adaptation. As Mrs says, it totally lacked the edge that the book had. Poor old Flora Thompson must be turning in her grave.

MerylStrop · 23/01/2011 21:57

Utter twaddle. Love it though.

cleanairplease · 23/01/2011 22:12

I only just started watching it, slightlySad. It's the yellowest thing on and I love it!

diddl · 24/01/2011 09:19

It bears very little relation to the books & I think that this series is crap so far tbh.

It seems to be a seried just for the sake of it somehow & the characters are a bit like caracatures of themselves.

feedme · 24/01/2011 09:26

I love the book, and when Dawn French turned up (very early on in the 1st episode) I just knew it would be crap, and so it proved.

ppeatfruit · 24/01/2011 09:59

yes feedme i also love the book; the t.V. version doesn't resemble the book much and seems to make up a lot i don't remember unless there's another book?

feedme · 24/01/2011 11:37

well, to be honest I only managed one episode, but any resmeblence to the book seemed to be purely accidental.

GettinTrimmer · 24/01/2011 12:01

It's about time, last night's episode was just daft with the snake stirring up passions Hmm

It's an endless of round of Dorcas fancying someone and not doing anything about it, Queenie being wise, Laura observing, Thomas being a prat, etc, etc, they've run out of interesting storylines.

Mirage · 24/01/2011 20:55

There was another book, called 'Still Glides the Stream',but I don't know if any of it made it onto t.v as I gave up watching really early on.

It kind of spoiled the books for me TBH.I get visions of Dawn French now if I try to read them.

[I was MrsT,but have reverted to my original MN name]

DuplicitousBitch · 24/01/2011 20:56

thank fuck

feedme · 24/01/2011 21:20

yes Mirage, I agree. Dawn French doing yokel, yuck

ppeatfruit · 25/01/2011 14:29

Mirage have you any idea if it's still in print? I'd like to get it.

Mirage · 25/01/2011 16:33

Yep,just found it on Amazon from 1p.I'm rubbish at links otherwise I'd do one.

diddl · 27/01/2011 07:10

I was quite disappointed with the book tbh.

There are some characters & funny vignettes, but nothing really happens.

It´s about a way of life that doesn´t exist anymore & I think that´s why it´s so popular.

sadiesadiemarriedlady · 27/01/2011 07:17

T'is utter crap.

ppeatfruit · 27/01/2011 09:57

Thanks Mirage Smile diddl i love the book, it makes poor victorian life real, well it was Flora Thompson's LIFE FGS, it doesn't glamourise anything & doesn't need much action IMO

doings · 27/01/2011 13:39

I'm glad - its turned into drivel.
