I'm planning to watch it. Who's with me?

I'm watching it, taking time to warm up.

sharbie · 20/01/2011 22:52

too much serious debate for me and ds - we were expecting a bit more comedy

TigerseyeMum · 20/01/2011 23:02

Watched it, loved it, Jimmy was the best bit of course :)

IntergalacticHussy · 21/01/2011 11:04

'Look, there's a lot of mileage in banker bashing'

Yes, that's because they caused a global economic crisis and are expecting the completely blameless public sector to foot the bill. Again.

David Mitchell let that guy off incredibly lightly. Is this supposed to be a programme with teeth? cos it's quite infantile.

ProfYaffle · 21/01/2011 11:07

I was a bit disappointed. Agree with Intergalactic, not as witty or insightful as I hoped and a bit infantile. Couldn't bear all the panto booing from the audience. I want David Mitchell in particular to be a bit more rigorous.

I'll keep watching though, all the best programmes take a while to warm up plus it's an entirely new format so neither the audience nor the presents quite know how to pitch it yet.

Ryoko · 21/01/2011 11:57

I though it was crap, get rid of the lot of em and just give Charlie Brooker his own show, the rest of them are not fit to be his tea boy.

plus I really hate Jimmy Carr he's annoying, smug and not funny at all ever, I've had more laughs at a funeral then I have watching him over the years.

sharbie · 21/01/2011 13:19

yay for cb too

MarioandLuigi · 21/01/2011 14:36

CB and DM were funny. I find that woman irritating and she didnt look like she had done much research, like not knowing Yvette Cooper and Ed Balls were in the cabinet together.

smellmycheese · 21/01/2011 17:34

I thought it was a little weak, but will keep watching. Like Profyaffle said, it may take time to warm up.

I do, however, think it may be quite a good way to get people who wouldnt otherwise give a shit to think about current affairs and politics. I'd imagine there were a lot of people tuning in expecting a straighforward stand up comedy show, and instead might have actually learnt something. That's my optimistic view anyway! they probably just thought it was shit and switched off! Grin

Katisha · 21/01/2011 17:37

But we were led to believe it would be satirical comedy and sharp insight etc.

Which it wasn't. It was neither fish nor fowl really - not terribly funny (despite the hyped audience) and not very insightful either...

I actually fell asleep during it.

And LL was made to seem like a token woman.

angels3 · 21/01/2011 18:40

Lauren Lavern should go back to singing in a band! I tried very hard to watch it, but I ended up urning over, as I was quite embarrassed by David Mitchell trying to grill bankers. I felt a bit uncomfortable watching it! Perhaps it will grow into itself - given time to settle down it may be alright....?

TigerseyeMum · 21/01/2011 21:41

I think it will settle down over time. It's got to find it's feet, but it has potential.

lazarusb · 22/01/2011 12:55

Why did she think it was odd that Yvette Cooper didn't have the surname Balls? Or did I misunderstand that bit? Confused

sharbie · 22/01/2011 14:21

twas a (lame) joke i've ate balls

Squitten · 22/01/2011 22:51

I'm a big fan of Mitchell, Brooker and Carr but did find it very tame. Will give it another look next week and hope it livens up a bit!

Looking forward to Charlie Brooker's new TV show this week...

Nancy66 · 23/01/2011 10:26

didn't work - was never going to. they've tried this so many times over the years.

pawsnclaws · 23/01/2011 11:30

I was disappointed - actually fell asleep during it and so only saw the first 20 minutes! - but give it time.

Hardandsleazy · 23/01/2011 15:36

Can't watch anything with laverne in find her too smug

ByTheSea · 23/01/2011 17:04

I'm a fan of Charlie Brooker and David Mitchell, but was disappointed. I'll give it some more time though.

I can't believe C4 is trying to pass this off as the political satire replacement for Jon Stewart and the Daily Show. Hmm
