We're used to seeing Donal MacIntyre chase overweight mini-cab drivers through supermarket car parks, but here, the investigative reporter gives his loafers a rest by limiting himself to narrative duties. Not that the results are any less combative. The opening episode of this bleak new series concentrates on Glasgow's gang culture, a phenomenon that has precipitated its recent status as "murder capital of western Europe". In the second episode, showing immediately after the first, we are taken on a glum tour of Liverpool, a city that has seemingly capitulated to the rule of local drug dealers. There may be little attempt to suggest possible solutions to each city's malaise, but MacIntyre's investigative skills are beyond quibble.
