I am watching the repeats, it is excellent. Mr Carson and the housekeeper are brilliant. And that witchy lady's maid!

It really is brilliant! I loved it. Not sure if it is true but I heard that there will be a sequel?

dalek · 02/01/2011 12:29

If I start watching it today will I have missed much?

wintera · 02/01/2011 15:19

Have they missed an episode out?

wintera · 02/01/2011 15:25

No it's my mistake. Have missed the one shown at 1.30pm.

kerstina · 02/01/2011 15:45

I have never seen it before today . I put it on thinking wow i have found a good new series with a gorgeous man in it but within ten minutes they had killed him off [sad[

jennymac · 02/01/2011 22:51

I had recorded it on sky when it was on first and just got the chance to watch it a couple of weeks ago when off sick. Really impressed by it - especially loved Brendan Coyle's character. Apparently they are making a second series due out later this year.

midlandsmumof4 · 03/01/2011 00:30

Much better than Upstairs Downstairs...How similar is the storyline though Smile.

wintera · 03/01/2011 09:22

I didn't watch Upstairs Downstairs. I was put off by comments made by their cast members regarding Downton. They came across as being very petty and I just thought, why do you have to slag Downton off? If they are both good quality shows then there is room for both. Anyway, I'm afraid their comments did more harm than good in my case and it put me off watching it. I will stick with Downton!

thenightsky · 03/01/2011 19:03

I started watching this quite by chance on Sunday, then had to cancel going out today to watch the rest of it. It was lovely and very funny in places. Loved that line about women not having opinions until they were married, when their husbands would be able to tell them what they should be. Grin

jonicomelately · 03/01/2011 19:04

Who said what about Downton wintera?

thenightsky · 03/01/2011 19:07

Loved the dresses in Downton Abbey too.

kerstina · 03/01/2011 22:19

OK so does anyone know who the gorgeous turk was tried to research (google) but came up with Ed stoppard thats not right though is it as he did not look like the chap in upstairs downstairs ?

ShowOfHands · 03/01/2011 22:23

Theo James iirc.

Thingumy · 03/01/2011 23:36

I watched it all over the last 2 days (lazy me!)

I am now looking forward to the new series,it was quite excellent once I got into it.

wintera · 04/01/2011 11:04

jonicomelately - Jean Marsh from Upstairs Downstairs made some unkind remarks about Downton Abbey. And so did Eileen Atkins too. I just thought it was a bit petty when I read about it. I didn't like the fact that they were putting Downton down whilst bigging up their own show. Anyway, apparently Hugh Bonneville from Downton retaliated (in a nice way, not nasty) on his twitter page. He wrote something about being surprised about it all. You can probably find all the details on google.

Of course, there's a chance it's all a load of bollocks! As these things in the press so often are!

DanceInTheDark · 04/01/2011 11:15

I loved Downton. I don't usually like period drama or upstairs downstairs type programmes but this is brilliant.

There is apparently a second series too :)

MrsPennySworth · 07/01/2011 16:01

I started watching it as it's where I got married so I obviously love it!

ppeatfruit · 09/01/2011 09:27

Lucky you Mrspenny what a fab place to get married! Do they also do the reception there?
