Think of a number, heads & tails, ivor the engine.

KenDoddsDadsDogEatsTinsel · 19/12/2010 21:21

Oh and Tomorrow's World

JingleBelleDameSansMerci · 19/12/2010 21:24

Bloody Blue Peter... The epitome of middle class tv.

I liked Jackanory and Ivor.

I hated Crackerjack though. It was embarassingly awful. As was Cheggars Plays Pop.

onestepforward · 19/12/2010 23:11

I third Ivor, my dd has just discovered it on youtube though and loves it (she is 2.5 - no idea why she loves it) and asks me for it over and over.

I used to dread champion the wonder horse too. Makes me sound ancient but it used to be black and white and on in the mornings in school hols!

cornyPrawnsdefrostJasonDonovan · 19/12/2010 23:12

Jackanory
Blue Peter
Magpie
Black Beauty
All that crap

cornyPrawnsdefrostJasonDonovan · 19/12/2010 23:13

school hols were dire - bloody Tarzan

upahill · 19/12/2010 23:14

follyfoot
Black Beauty to name two from the top of my head.

TigerseyeMum · 19/12/2010 23:47

Why Don't You? (switch off your television set and go out and do something less boring instead) (so I did).

Blue Peter (but we were not allowed to watch the other side which I think was Tiswas as we would have become delinquent or something).

Chockablock.

Penny Crayon.

Moomins (though they were freaky rather than dull).

Blu · 19/12/2010 23:48

Tales From Europe.

God, that was dreary.

NoahAndTheWhale · 20/12/2010 00:17

Heads and Tails was dull

I loved Ivor the Engine as my previous user name of IdrisTheDragon would show :)

Lydwatt · 20/12/2010 09:02

Why don't you was beyond tedious!

JingleBelleDameSansMerci · 20/12/2010 09:26

Tigerseye, it was Magpie on the other side. I watched Magpie but we were common Smile

pawsnclaws · 20/12/2010 09:45

I'm sorry, but nothing so far mentioned will beat the tedium of having to watch Songs of Praise on a Sunday night. Preceded by Highway on ITV and followed by the Antiques Roadshow.

My parents never really "got" the concept of TV designed for children Smile.

TigerseyeMum · 20/12/2010 19:40

Ooh JingleBelle at least now I know what I was missing Grin

Yes, we had the dreary monotony of Sunday night TV, in our house it was always preceded by Last of the Summer Wine as well. And ended with That's Life.

I used to hate the News. My parents watched the 6 O Clock News, the 9 O Clock News and the 10 O Clock News. It was all the same friggin news Hmm

TigerseyeMum · 20/12/2010 19:42

I loved Ivor the Engine and Idris was my favourite character, I always wanted to call a child Idris but that probably wouldn't be fair, unless we get around to moving to Wales.

AnneTwacky · 21/12/2010 18:05

Definitely, Why Don't You

Ivor and Think of a number were great.

Does any remember picture box that was on right before children's telly. Now that was boring.

merrymonsters · 22/12/2010 21:34

The older members of my family insisted on watching the "Edinburgh Military Tattoo". Unbelievably this used to be shown on TV every year in Australia! They didn't even like it: they watched it because my late grandmother liked it.

TheYuleLogLady · 22/12/2010 21:37

why don't you was embarassingly awful.

beachholiday · 22/12/2010 21:48

Loved Jackanory. Still remember being read the BFG and discovering Dahl.

We also used to sit and "watch" the test card, having no concept of when and how it would suddenly turn into programs!

(with a boredom threashold that high its unlikely I would find any actual programs dull).

UnquietDad · 23/12/2010 16:20

pawsnclaws - v. similar Sunday night experiences here!

I didn't find any TV for children dull actually. I'm sure I would now.

Can you imagine our children transported back to the 1970s/early 80s and being faced with endless swathes of daytime Closedown and no Internet??

tinselthechaffinch · 23/12/2010 17:55

I used to hate all the cartoons, esp. Yogi Bear, Dangermouse, Popeye, Laurel and Hardy- on all the bloody time.

Also, anyone remember Wizbit with Paul Daniels-it was on before Brownies in the mid 80s.

I hated it , it was crap, but can still remember the tune

'hop ha thisaway, hop ha thataway, hop ha thisaway my oh my!!'

Happy xmas!

PortlyBlackSantaUpAChimney · 24/12/2010 08:53

We
Are
The
Champions

tinselthechaffinch · 24/12/2010 11:15

I got really upset watching 'We are the Champions', one year, when I was about 6.

There was a team from a school in Wales and 4, yes 4, girls had the same name as me-

Catherine Jones

and no ,my middle names not Zeta.

UnquietDad · 24/12/2010 11:28

I hated "We Are The Champions" because it was, basically, PE. I couldn't fathom why anyone would want to put themselves through that voluntarily.
