was House not on last night?

My sky plus didn't record it and it's usually repeated on monday nights, but doesn't seem to be on tonight either.

Did anyone see it or know if it wasn't on last night for some reason?

Series 7 continues this Sunday with episode 6. Why do they do these week breaks? Do they do them in the States too?

It's all to do with the production and airing schedules in the States. A typical hour-long drama in the States usually starts airing in September and goes through to the end of May. They can't produce enough episodes to air one a week for that length of time, so they have breaks in the airing schedule.

In recent years, Sky has often followed that airing schedule, though they're usually slightly behind the States for contractual reasons (especially for Fox shows).

The other thing to note is that in the States they have "sweep months", particularly November, February, and May. This is when the ratings research is done, which affects the amount advertisers pay for their slots. So typically, networks will save up sufficient episodes (by having breaks) so they can broadcast a new episode every week during those sweep months to keep viewers invested and not channel surf to their competitors.
