Neighbours - Steph giving away her baby...

I know I am taking this way too seriously... In my defence probably something to do with having 18 mth old DS1 and being 25 weeks pregnant with DS2 [ie hormonal ++!] but is anyone else disturbed by the storyline where Steph is about to give away her baby son to Dan???

I keep thinking where is her health visitor/GP, is she actually post-natally depressed and where the hell is her other son... might he not be just a little affected by his mother being absent and then her giving away his little brother?

What do other Neighbours watchers think?

I hate the way N deals with any birth or baby issue, basically there's always a huge life-threatening drama, following which the poor little mite will be robbed of either father or mother very quickly thereafter. They're just ratings pawns!

The low point was Lynne and her postnatal depression which basically consisted of her going shoplifting once or twice, then after a couple of sessions with Dr Karl she's pronounced cured and it's never spoken of again.

And yes, we are definitely taking this too seriously ....

I actually thought the scene where he tells her the baby's name was really sad. I am also pregnant which might explain my over reaction... Grin
She obviously has PND, you can tell how she doesn't want to pick up the crying baby. I wonder how things will work out though- is there a legal arrangement or something?

magna · 01/11/2010 18:42

IMO I am with scary in the way N deals with births - normally for a story line. What I couldn't get over was how steph fitted back in her skin tight jeans again Hmm

DandyDan · 01/11/2010 18:45

I thought it was very depressing and hope there is something coming up in the storyline that will deal properly with how she handled this. Charlie losing his baby brother, Lyn not even getting to see her new grandson, Toadie's feelings of care and responsibility, let alone Steph's possible PND: it's all wrong, yet the plotwriters know it, since they put in that moving montage of Toad trying to find Steph and memories of the pregnancy.

It doesn't help me that I have never ever ever liked Steph.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 01/11/2010 18:52

Steph is leaving isn't she, so it might all get resolved....

I am waiting for Kate to be yet another pregnant teenage Mother afer her recent fling with Declan..... Don't they have contraception that works in Australia.

noeyedear · 01/11/2010 19:50

I found it hard to watch too- and wouldn't Dan have done more? He seemed concerned that she wasn't sure of what she was doing, but then still decided to take away a days old baby? Maybe there will be more to it, but the guy who plays Dan has left. They filmed this bit before he left, so it's not going to be a long running story with him in it. And if Steph is leaving too, I can't see how they would be able to deal with the PND. As it's Neighbours, she may just go off into the sunset with him...

moajab · 01/11/2010 22:27

I know I'm taking it far too seriously but i was practically screaming at he TV "Joint Custody"! All Steph seemed to think about was what was best for Dan - not about people she surely cares about more - Charlie, Lyn and Adam. If she wanted to make a big sacrifice for Dan's sake then surely just leaving Ramsey Street and moving to be near Dan so he could share custody would be enough. Perhaps eventually she will, as the actress is leaving.

vmcd28 · 03/11/2010 09:55

I'm sure she'll get the baby back, and then the character will leave.

Magna, she's actually slimmer now than she was before she was pregnant!

And that was the hugest 7lb 2 baby I've ever seen :)

noeyedear · 03/11/2010 18:01

They haven't bothered trying to make her look as if she's jusy given birth!

I was shocked at Libby today ( I know it's not real!) They have made her into a real bitch! And does everyone have to go in for the snog when they are comforting someone? Lucs is a ho!

create · 03/11/2010 18:09

Magna, all I could think was this is too ridiculous for words and she's wearing those jeans....

FlamingMagnaFlow · 03/11/2010 20:24

vmc so right about being skinier than before - if only it was like that in RL

create If you think the story line is bad now I think it is going to get a whole lot worse from the spoilers I have read.

Glad to see Lucas is still snogging everyone though at least there is some continuity Wink

vmcd28 · 03/11/2010 20:46

The close-up of Lucas snogging on HD turned my stomach - his slightly greasy face/hair and stubble. UGH.

Rossco · 03/11/2010 20:54

The Steph thing is bad enough but Sonya must have the patience of a saint!

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 03/11/2010 20:57

I got into jeans a week after giving birth... I thought they baby was now a few weeks old.

Lydwatt · 03/11/2010 21:45

yeah moajab ...I was thinking 'joint custody' too!

Why does she have to leave the baby completey??

a crock of sh*t really! clearly no one on the script team has been a real mum!

anonacfr · 04/11/2010 14:40

Not only is she wearing skin tight jeans, but she also has perfectly manucured long nails.... When exactly did she get a chance to get them done? Hmm

lazarusb · 04/11/2010 16:08

I was back in size 10 jeans 2 days after having ds1 (but I was 18 then Grin). Took a week or two to get back into size 12s after dcs 2 &3 though. I'm quite good at morning sickness Hmm so didn't put on a lot of weight.

anonacfr · 04/11/2010 16:57

I was back in pre-pregnancy trousers a week after DCs 1 & 2, but not super tight skinnies that I would have to wiggle on lying horizontal on a bed though. And my belly stayed tender and flabby for a while.

Since she's meant to have PND and is quite a tomboy anyway, why the nails? They look like Posh Spice's!

And yes, I am obsessing way too much about this.

2shoes · 04/11/2010 16:59

ok so she had the baby days ago, and didn't bf for obvious reasons........
yet no going through the pain and dripping breasts for steph, ...
god my were agony and enormous, bu not for her....

anonacfr · 04/11/2010 17:12

oooh I forgot about the leaky nipples!

FlamingMagnaFlow · 04/11/2010 18:54

Ooooh and now she is blaming the hormones for snogging Lucas (but he loves you)

noeyedear · 04/11/2010 19:19

Wasn't it Lynn who blamed the hormones? She was still in denial.

Neighbours has never been known for it's realism when it comes to childbirth- no one has a 20 hour labour- they never make it to the hospital on time and give birth all over the place!

anonacfr · 04/11/2010 19:27

No it was definitely Steph. Someone should tell her that 'the hormones' all disappear as soon as you give birth. You're not pregnant anymore remember!
