really fed up with STV not showing the new progs,I keep forgetting to go to ITV London and end up missing half a prog, still better than the crap STV shows.

I don't have anything but basic Freeview, so no ITV London.

Hugely fed up. My poor mother thinks she is going to get a Marple/Poirot treat only to find that there is an old Billy Connelly programme instead.

There was an article about this when Downton Abbey started and someone from STV was very patronising about Scots not liking costume dramas. (But we love repeats.....). Apparently the fact that we are getting first shows of the new Taggart more than makes up for it.

Grrrrr.

glasjam · 28/10/2010 23:46

Some episodes of Taggart ARE costume dramas FGS! Didn't see the article you were referring to poppyknot but it seems they were trotting out a piss-poor excuse for being tight.

vmcd28 · 29/10/2010 11:12

It's outrageous. The way things are going, they'll be down the pan by this time next year

lilyliz · 29/10/2010 15:41

poppyknot, the repeats are so old they are costume dramas and vincd28,sooner it goes down the pan the better, may be we could view what the rest of the country sees, more likely Alex Salmond would take over and we would be back to the White Heather club but in Gaelic.

White Heather Club and Last Call. Grin

For all the programmes that were originally not shown, STV said that they did not reflect live in Scotland.(Hence Bill, Pub Landlord, May Contain Nuts etc being pulled) becasue obviously we Scots can only watch things that have local accents and settings. We have no imagination or wish for escapism........

poppyknot · 29/10/2010 16:05

We missed a series called Collision. It was written by Anthony Horowitz and in an interview he actually bemoaned the fact that STV had pulled it.....

vmcd28 · 29/10/2010 16:50

Lily, that was my point, that the STV powers that be clearly had no idea what the viewers even wanted to watch (which is appalling in itself) and their great decision is going to destroy the very thing they were trying to create.
Or, more likely, it was purely to save money. But this is having the same effect. Low viewing figures = advertisers deserting them = STV going down the pan.

Euphemyknifeinyourback · 29/10/2010 21:14

What happened to the plan for an hour-long Scottish news? The very thought has me packing my bags to move down south. It's bad enough at the moment - 5 minutes of murders, 15 mins of fecking football with Raman Ballbagwash then Sean Campasaboyscoutjamboree telling us it's going to pish it down all weekend.

tefal · 30/10/2010 07:53

LOL! Couldn't agree more with the above post!

JoBettany · 30/10/2010 13:43

I absolutely agree euphemy!

I can't believe how bad it is. I get sooo annoyed about Poirot, Marple, Downton Abbey etc.

I have stopped even looking at STV for week night programmes and only watch a couple of things at the weekend.

I cannot watch another Taggart, Billy Connolly, Scotland's Wildlife or naff film instead of the high qualitly drama I really enjoy.

And as for the news.... God help us all if comes to pass.

Viewers must be leaving in droves.
