Actually, quite like my dh Confused and a tad Blush

I wondered about him to start with, but I don't think he could keep up the act if it was an act - he really is that dim.
It's Ricky Gervais's stupid face and always-sounds-the-same OTT laugh that I can't abide, which has put me off anything to do with Karl.

hifi · 27/10/2010 15:00

agree about gervais phoney laugh, hes so irritating.

We're really enjoying this prog, but it annoys me that Gervais is deliberately ruining his trips by annoying him and making him stay in shitty hotels. It seems clear that Karl would be pissed off at everything anyway so the Gervais puppeteer thing is a bit lame. Incidentally, i think karl smiled for the first time in last night's show.

DH and I love this but I thought the same as you vmcd28. Trying to make someone enlightened through travel is not going to work by sending them to constant shitholes/making them experiencing the rough end of everywhere!
I do find it funny how someone can be so non plussed about such magnificent sights but it is refreshing to see the real side of places and not just the tourist bit.
Ricky G is an arrogant, smug and very unlikeable man!

CrazyPlateLady · 29/10/2010 20:20

I didn't watch this at first as all I knew it was a Ricky Gervais thing and he is one of the most unfunny 'comedians' I know!

Carl Pilkington though, brilliant! Loving Idiot Abroad. Luckily there isn't much RG in it.

Mytholmroyd · 31/10/2010 16:40

I too was very suspicious about whether it was an act - interested to hear not. I have been watching for the rare and fleeting smiles as well!

We thinks its hilarious - loved the "en-suite shed" episode and running away from the fireworks! Dont see how his mind can be expanded by wallowing in squalor. He seemed to connect with the Indian wise man (sorry cant remember his proper title) who persuaded him to swim in the Ganges.

He's definitely coming out of this an awful lot better than RG who is quite obnoxious.
