Apparently (unknown to him) he has epilepsy and so the car crash wasn't deliberate .....

I read on the TV guide that he has some sort of illness and I assumed that it would be something that caused him to blackout.

I almost felt sorry for him in last nights episode but WTF is that fluff on his chin?

Yep. Read that a couple of weeks ago. Good storyline though.
