Gossip Girl - suitable for 13yo DD?

She's recently watched the odd episode online and declared the clothes as 'lush', so was thinking of buying a boxed set for her birthday.

I'm embarrassed to say it's passed me by, so would appreciate any comments.

Just wondering if it's too adult for her, really.

She enjoyed Glee, although we were both a bit Hmm about some of the content.

Tia.

My two girls (17 and 13) watch it together, it seems fine to me. The characters all seem a tad self-absorbed, self-centered and vain but it's just a programme!!
There hasn't been any sex or violence and no swearing from what I can remember.

I watch gossip girl and personally I wouldnt want a 13 yr old watching it the end of the episode last night was quite rude Blush

And season 1 was full of it all they talk about is sex etc so im not sure its up to you mabye your best watching a couple of episodes yourself first :)

It has quite a lot of sex in it (not graphic but lots of flash-back style shots) - the whole series begins with one girl who's run away because she shagged her best friend's boyfriend. Then there's plots on drug-taking, promiscuity, bulimia. The show itself is pretty funny and focuses what teenage girls love: boys and clothes. But it definitely has a murky undercurrent. I think it depends on how easily shocked your dd is. I would think the majority of kids would be fine with it, it's really no worse than an episode of hollyoaks (but with a darned sight better dress sense). Hope that helps!

The hinted at deeper stuff tends to straight over my 13 year olds head, she just loves the clothes, the location, the shallow young people who have nothing to think of except themselves!!

< Hollyoaks reference flies past WWWY's head >
Thanks all - think I'll do what she's been doing and erm watch an episode online.

Liking the sound of it myself actually!

I love GG! (hence the name)

Be warned your DD will probably develop very expensive tastes in clothes! Wink

There are a few drugs and sex storylines but the whole thing is just so far removed from real life that I'm sure she will just enjoy it for the fantasy aspect of it. It's harmless, funny and great fun.

Season 1 DVD rated a 15 according to Amazon. So I would say yes probably.

Will have a look - thanks.
