I loved that program, but I did think Miranda would win, though I do like Ed!

smugmumofboys · 21/09/2010 21:03

We're Ruth fans here!

PutOnThePan · 21/09/2010 21:07

Took an irrational dislike to ruth when she said that parenting was competitve and then had a massive chip on her shoulder about lack of un iversity education

hooray for ed!

Yes I agree POTP. Miranda was a bit "little miss perfect." Ed was lovely and his twin brother obviously likes his cakes!

smugmumofboys · 21/09/2010 21:22

lol about his brother. Yes, he was obviously drafted in for tasting duty.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 21/09/2010 21:27

Puton agree wholeheartedly I found Ruth really annoying and I think it was those very same comments that triggered my irritation.

smugmumofboys · 21/09/2010 21:31

But her Lemon Drizzle Layer Cake was fab. I also made her Boy Bait pud and it was delish.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 21/09/2010 21:33

I think I put on 2 stone just watching. I have loved this series.

mrswoodentop · 21/09/2010 21:42

Edd messed up his cakes in the first section of the final and should have gone out,I liked them all really but Miranda made no mistakes and should have stayed,he had to cut his cakes out of the mould .

Ruth was just a little too perfect for me ,she started off my favourite(I have three boys too!)but comepletely lost it when she was snide about Miranda's fish pie ,and just a little too openly competetive. The male judge was too mechanistic for me as well

Katisha · 21/09/2010 21:47

I think Miranda's stuff was good but unoriginal/derivative.
I thought Edd was inconsistent.
I think it should have been chippy Ruth.

And Paul Holywell should get a grip. So many rules about baking that nobody except him knows about...

SexyDomesticatedDad · 22/09/2010 10:31

Well done Edd - taught him everything he knows Wink

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 22/09/2010 10:43

I was very surprised when Miranda didn't get through to the Tea party bake-off when her cakes were so pretty and immaculate, and Edd's were such a mess!

I have been dropping some fairly heavy hints, and I'm hoping that dh will get me the recipe book for birthday or christmas. I do want to have a go at Ruth's mini quiches with the cheesy pastry - that sounds delicious.

nigglewiggle · 22/09/2010 11:04

My sister got the book recently at Tesco. I think it was £10. It's fab!

Katisha · 22/09/2010 11:27

The book is very nice. It's heavily discounted at The Book People and on Amazon.

turnitup · 22/09/2010 13:35

I really wanted Ruth to win, I thought she was really nice.

Ed should have gone weeks ago, he made loads of cock-ups. His only great week was the bread.

I didn't think Miranda was that good either. Everyone raved about her chocolate cake, but I thought it was a bit of a mess. Although I did love the lemon cupcakes.

I have the book, it's really good. Have made 2 things already, and am doing Ruths beef pie tomorrow.

bamboostalks · 22/09/2010 15:02

Ruth should have won, she was the most consistent. What a great series and I cannot bake for toffee.

SexyDomesticatedDad · 22/09/2010 15:06

Yes Ruth was very consustent, Ed most of the time too - but when he got it right it was better. In the final task you could see what he made had the edge so a deserved winner.

bamboostalks · 22/09/2010 15:14

He was good at bread and I think that was what swung it for him. Paul was impressed by that.

MissWooWoo · 22/09/2010 19:10

absolutely loved watching this and very disappointed that Miranda didn't make it to the "tea off" ... wonder if she is a MNetter?

EdgarAllInPink · 22/09/2010 19:13

Miranda was Soooooooooooo robbed. I don't see how Ed could win at all. He should have been out for those messy cakes. Sexism I say!

'women are good at everything except sewing and baking'

EdgarAllInPink · 22/09/2010 19:17

oh, and i had a savoury tart as part of high tea at The Lanesborough - WTF were they on about savouries not being a part of tea?

EdgarAllInPink · 22/09/2010 19:19

turnitup · 22/09/2010 19:41
