The film or the new series?
I love them both. This is England 86' was great, esp the 2 lads puzzled about who would sit in the mini wicker chair Grin

amberleaf · 08/09/2010 23:33

I was a little bit disappointed tbh, when it finished i felt as though not enough had happened?

I wished they had shown the 1st two episodes back to back.

I had never seen any of his stuff before - tbh didn't think it would be my cup of tea but i stayed up and watched this last night and loved it.Wicker chair - hilarious.
Would i like the film then - i always thought it would be too sweary and violent - i have got this wrong haven't i ??
I would have liked there to have been more music though.

Shane Meadows is excellent sharbie, check out 'a room for romeo brass' The film is a lot darker, but definitely worth watching.

Think it's s'posed to be set "in a northen town" but most of the young actors are from east midlands, mostly notts. I was disappointed with first ep of this too, very slow. Suffered from a lack of Stephen Graham - hope he turns up in future episodes.

BunnyLebowski · 09/09/2010 08:49

It was absolutely shite. As I expected it to be.

It had none of the freshness and realism of the film. It was incongruously schmaltzy and at times painfully derivative and contrived.

There were glaring holes in the supposed 80's setting.

The high budget Skins-esque production quality and camera work was completely at odds with the supposedly 'gritty' subject matter.

And nothing frigging happened.

I'm still a big fan of the original film and all Shane Meadows' other features but he has gone down significantly in my estimation for producing such a shallow and soulless piece of TV for the E4 generation.

usualsuspect · 09/09/2010 08:53

It seemed to be more about the production and camera angles than the content ..it was so slow I gave up on it half way through

kittya · 09/09/2010 09:27

I agree, I only gave it 30 minutes. I just felt like it had all been done before.

katkouta · 09/09/2010 11:40

Of course nothing happened it was the first episode! It was just concluding what had happened in the mean time.
I do agree that it lacked the realism of the film though.
