I noticed they have remade it.

I distinctly remember been sent to bed as the credits were coming on, I mustve been eight. When my parents were out, the babysitter used to let us watch it.

I cant wait to watch it with a bottle of wine and no-one telling me to get to bed!

If you watched it, you would remember it!!

Yes, that bloody perve Trevor Eve in a sense of guilt. Sounds like this is the perfect job for him!!

Remember the annoying girl with the red hair, Rudi someone?

Beryl Bainbridge's daughter - god she was irritating.

poppyknot · 02/09/2010 23:17

I am not sure - STV has a habit of not showing all sorts of things especially dramas. I have stopped paying attention to forthcoming programmes as 10-1 it will not be shown. Grrrrrrrr.

I didn't saw it at the time butI think I saw a repeat - I had the paperback with a picture of Susan Penhaligon and Frank Findly on the cover though.

I definatley saw 'A sense of Guilt'. It had Beryl Bainbridge's daughter Ruth Davies in it who had been in Grange Hill......

I wasn't allowed to watch Rock Follies either

kittya · 03/09/2010 20:49

I think we used to see Rock Follies when we stayed at my auntie's house. Rula Lenska was in it -.she later got married to Dennis Waterman - don't remember him being in Rock Follies.

I remember Julie Covington, who was outstandingly talented and had been in Evita - had the hit single the first time around. I think she withdrew from the business after Rock Follies though.

Seemed very rude I remember.

squeaver · 03/09/2010 21:21

I am LOVING that Trevor Eve is in it. No one does ageing lothario better

Nuttybear · 04/09/2010 21:50

I might watch it now. At the time, I would have been 13 yrs, I remember thinking that Frank Finlay was revolting and the idea of incest revolting too so quite happy to go to bed. This time with Trevor Eve I might give it a go. Now Rock Follies, Whats that was worth watching and repeating. Would love to see that again. Yes Julie Covington was very good. I remeber watching that on parents TV in their bedroom what a treat.

BitOfFun · 04/09/2010 21:54

I think everybody in it shagged each other. All very pampas grass...

chocolatefroggie · 04/09/2010 22:00

Well 1976 that explains it - I wasn't born Grin so no wonder i'd never heard of it.

Nuttybear · 04/09/2010 22:02

Stop showing off Choco

kittya · 04/09/2010 23:21

I was eight. Its a shame the review in the Guardian tv guide is so negative.

It must have been repeated after 1983 cos I remember watching it and I didn't come to the uk until then.
Remember loving it.

midlandsmumof4 · 04/09/2010 23:50

Remember the original with Frank Finlay. He was gorgeous.....Love Trevor Eve, think
he'll do a good job.

kittya · 06/09/2010 11:42

ooooh! Ten minutes into Bouquet of barbed wire and there's already some rompy pompy.

Remember sneaking to watch this in my older sisters room,Grin I was 16 and mum thought it too racy for me to watch. Oh how times have changed.

TigerseyeMum · 06/09/2010 21:45

I feel like some kind of pervy old lady cos that English teacher s very sexy Blush and Trev isn't bad either Blush

SmellyPirateHooker · 06/09/2010 21:58

MrsMorgan · 06/09/2010 22:03

Im bloody loving it!! but, how can Prue possibly be 16? she looks 26!

OP posts:
swanandduck · 07/09/2010 10:45

I don't think it matches up to the original. It just doesn't translate to 2010. A 16 year old who gets pregnant nowadays just wouldn't rush into marriage like that and it makes the whole thing a bit unbelievable.

GeorginaWorsley · 07/09/2010 11:37

I thought that too, swan
Prue supposed to be 18 ish,I think as doing A levels.
The teacher was more believable in the original,I think.
I used to sneakily watch some of it on a fri night whilst my mum was in the bath!
(Was only 9)
I have read the book though, and the sequel.

kittya · 07/09/2010 12:02

well, she may get married in an act of defiance. I think it translated very well. The are clearly well to do and maybe in their circles marriage is the thing to do. Im trying to remember the story now from my eight year old eyes! Is he just besotted by his daughter? I didnt get incest vibes. Although I thought that was old fashioned when he was upset the mother hadnt told him that the daughter was on the pill. As if an 18 year old would even tell her own mother!!

And, Prue, what kind of a name is that??

DinahRod · 07/09/2010 12:08

Did NuttyBear say she was going to give incest a go? With Trevor Eve? ConfusedGrin

They used to put some pretty adult films on in the afternoon, it was an education!
