They have just shown a room that parents with babies have stayed in.

Filthy nappies and stinking towels strewn across the bathroom floor.

I am just that people would just leave a room like that!

I was just saying to DH how disgusting that was, espcially leaving a soiled nappy on the floor. Filthy beasts.

expatinscotland · 15/07/2010 21:45

Oh, I worked in hotel housekeeping and you'd be amazed how digusting some people are.

I just don't like that attitude of we'll leave it like a shit hole because the staff are paid to clean it!

Just13moreyearstogo · 15/07/2010 21:49

Totally agree - I always think of the people who have to clean up and never leave anything in too much of a state.

expatinscotland · 15/07/2010 22:01

I do, too. I always tidy up.

Oh, we were treated like utter scum, too.

Only two of us on the crew of 30 were native born Americans. The rest were all from Mexico and Central America. And we were both Hispanic, so we never spoke English.

People said stuff around us, thinking we didn't speak English at all.

You just got on with it because you have targets/time limits for cleaning a room.

And sadly, there were also more than a few suicides when I was there. Now those we didn't have to clean until after the proper cleaners had been around.

CarGirl · 15/07/2010 22:13

expat that is about cleaning up after suicides, I can't imagine how it must make you feel.

As for the clients assuming you couldn't speak english - how ignorant is that!

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 15/07/2010 22:16

Oh, no, we didn't have to clean those, Car.

There are death cleaners who do that. Companies who specialise in cleaning up after suicides or murders or meth labs/drug squats.

It's considered a biohazard and a lot of times, things like carpets, beds, curtains and sometimes even wallpapers need changed after that.

But it's no fun to discover someone like that when you go into the room.

CarGirl · 15/07/2010 22:18

I know you don't have to do the big clean up but it's still yuck, and finding bodies

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 15/07/2010 22:19

thankfully, it never happened to me, but it did to several colleagues.

very unpleasant.

CaptainKirksNipples · 15/07/2010 22:19

My friend had to do that a few weeks ago expat, she is a manager in a hotel that 2 students committed suicide in using there laptop to administer drugs. She said it was horrific, like a scene from a horror film

expatinscotland · 15/07/2010 22:24

Oh, in the US, often enough, they use guns.

It is sad but it makes a terrible mess.

You really do need a professional company to come in for that type of job.

One time there was a fella who jumped out of the window from the 9th floor. But before he did that he'd cut himself and bled all over stacks of money (he was a drug dealer and got into trouble with a drugs gang or something) and because he was all drugged up the room was really bad.

heverhoney1 · 15/07/2010 22:34

My 14 month old makes a lot of mess when she is eating (What baby doesn't). When we took her to a cafe there was a lot of debris when we were done. So I went to the counter staff and asked for a dustpan and brush to clean up after her and they were and said that NOBODY had ever asked that before and they normally just leave their mess!!

Seriously are there that few people in the world with manners???

Not quite as shocking as the suicides but still worth a mention.

lisad123isgoingcrazy · 15/07/2010 23:42

Just sat and watched it. I was more about the handyman in Watford, sounded very dishonest and lazy to me.

ShadeofViolet · 16/07/2010 10:22

I used to work as housekeeping in a chain hotel.

The worst I ever found was someone that had shit on the sofa - it was bloody awful but I would rather than any day than finding a dead body.

sheepgomeep · 17/07/2010 15:03

I've found used condoms in a hotel bed when I was a chambermaid, yuk, and it was an expensive hotel too.

sadly some people are worse than animals when it comes to staying in hotels
