Question about Something Special

When Justin signs on Something Special is he doing it the right way around or mirror image, or doesn't it matter which hand you use. (What I mean is if he does a sign with his right hand should I copy with my right or left hand?.)

Ds absolutely adores this show, he was falling about giggling at Mr Tumble today.

I think it's a mirror image, but that's what I do.

swiperfox · 19/08/2005 19:04

i think its mirror image and assume you can use either hand - until you are doing alphabet

Nemo1977 · 19/08/2005 19:04

if he is using right then i would use right..when i did some sign lang only intro thing everyone used their right as main hand.

nutcracker · 19/08/2005 19:08

I hadn't even thought of that, good point.

Ds had me in stitches at dinner earlier when he signed that Dp was a pig LOL.

Kidstrack2 · 19/08/2005 19:12

My dd absolutely loves the programme and has started to do some of the little signs, she is 2 and as soon as she hears the music she shouts justin mr tumble jumps up and down and shouts for tyra

no, left hand or right hand is irrelevant so long as you are consistent.

exactly, Christie....can lead with either left hand or right hand. Same as BSL.

bran · 19/08/2005 21:04

Thanks for that, I'll lead with my right hand then. I'm not sure whether ds is going to be right or left handed (he's only 14 months) but I guess he'll do whatever feels natural to him.

I sign right handed but the child I work with signs left (he is left handed) and he isn't confsed by this(mental age 5ish)

SleepyJess · 23/08/2005 23:39

I fancy Justin. It just came over me yesterday, or maybe I've been in denial before.

And I'm serious!

(sorry re hijack! Needed to offload this!!)

SleepyJess · 23/08/2005 23:55

Oh dear. I'm not normal am I. You're all shocked into silence! Or do none of you late-night lot even know who Justin (swoon) is!

Davros · 24/08/2005 09:37

Sleepyjess, you're not normal! But at least you don't have any competition
I've got a friend who spent a lot of time and work "correcting" her DS with ASD to change hands to sign and had various people working with him studiously signing with the opposite hand to what was natural for them. Total waste of time imo (and I told her!), as long as he/they could be understood.....

SleepySuzy · 24/08/2005 09:39

Definately no competition here!! I think he is fantastic - but fanciable - no!!!
