DS1 on first Uni option open day/visit.. It is a bit weird isn't it?

Dropped him at the station this morning for the train to go an do open day at one of his uni possible options.

Lots of things have been a shock when I realise how big he is getting but this one feels a bit strange - a reality check that he is going to be off in a years time.

I am not empty nesting by any means but it just seems so... quick, I suppose.
He seems 30 in some ways and about 10 in others.
Is it just me?

Though you could be glad Dc not like mine and clueless and unmotivated about what he wants to do .
An open day visit ( if organised ,or even thought of by DS ) would cheer the cockles of my despairing heart .
Any one else out there who's thinking " if I don't research the courses ,find the open days ,nothing will happen " ?

I certainly feel like that VQ, or rather, if I don't do some legwork, ds will just settle for some kind of easy option, or do what someone he knows is going to do.

This could be the last summer hol we have together - although I hope not; I hope we will be able to lure him onto family hols in the future; but equally I hope he develops a successful life of his own as well.

Rather feebly I'm hoping that having our dog will mean that our kids are compelled to keep in touch with us - they will come back to cuddle him, even if we are not a spectacular attraction. Altho, again, I hope we will be worth visiting on occasion.

I like to think it is a sign of a reasonably good mum to be having and acknowledging these mixed feelings.

Oh, he has done that violet but I have to confess nearly fainting with the shock of it and going on line to check whether he had fucked it up made any organisational errors.

He is going to see five I think and even booked himself in for appts, tours and lectures. He then carefully explained that we needed to give him a shed load of money for train tickets

DS2 will never leave home so seeing DS1 go out into the world is pretty brilliant and yet bitter sweet.
He will come home to see the dog too

Another here hoping DS1 will come home to visit the dog! I had to explain to him, very patiently, that he must spend at least as much time choosing his uni and course as he would a pair of shoes...Think he wants it all to be sorted by magic.
We are in Scotland so he will know after Higher results in August where he can apply.
And he's taking his driving test next month - seems like yesterday that he was at nursery.
Have 2 more DCs at home (& the dog) but I will really miss him.
