help with periods

My daughter is 12 and started her periods in January.
Its been an on going battle with her, she wont tell me when she has them, wont use towels, wont use anything, she would rather sit in it.
It seems to be a constant battle just now with her. I'm having to throw her underwear in the bin everytime she has a period as they are un washable.
She had dancing on Saturday and her leotard is stained, but she doesn't seem to care about other people seeing it.
School link worker has spoke to her and she says its because she knows it gets to me, thats why she wont wear a towel.
I've tried ignoring it, but that only lasts so long because it smells and I'm tired of her clothes being ruined.

I'm at my wits end,
Can anyone suggest anything else I can try?

Thanks

Have you talked to Parentline plus; they may be helpful.

What is she angry about exactly; what was the catalyst/s for her anger?. If she started to hit you at 9 years of age, what happened when she was 9?. For whatever reasons (and she is taking out her anger of that particular situation out on you) she is certainly taking it out on you.

Internally she is a very unhappy little girl. You do not mention her Dad; where is he?.

I have spoke to parentline before but they told me I was to keep in touch with social work.

She's always had a temper on her ever since she was younger, but when she was 9 we had to move house, her dad put us out the house and for 10 months we were in a homeless unit.
The day after we moved out of the homeless unit into our own house.

Her dad flits in and out her life as and when it suits him. He doesnt see any of this behaviour, doesnt know shes started her periods(she didnt want him knowing that).

She's been in hospital this week so homelink worker didnt get to speak to her but hopefully if shes back at school next week then she will have a wee chat with her
