DD (12) had first period in January. Had some fab advice from MNetters (thanks again) and she handled it really well. However, 6 weeks later, no sign of second period. I know they can be irregular at the beginning, but how long to leave it without getting medical advice please.

my youngest was like this at first she only had them 3 monthly however my niece has always been like this so was my grandmother, some girls/women don't have regular periods ever. we've got the opposite problem with her now, shes having them every 2 weeks and is under regular contact with Dr try not to worry everyone is different.

Oh I was like this. I had my first period, and then nothing for about 5 months. It took a year or so before they settled down into anything even vaguely approaching a pattern.

I only had periods every 6 months for the first 2 years.

thanks all, my gut feel was that it wasn't an issue (and actually quite pleased for her that she's had a long break!) but equally didn't want to be naive about it. thanks again.
