if your teenager does get ema

what do you allow them to do with it ,or do you keep control of the money for them.
My DS2 has got a cash card for his account and i reaaly dont want him to spend it on useless things. He says he is going to be sensible but I have my doubts.

Dd has £30 a week ema. She is very sensible and saves half of it. Out of her money she pays for her phone, clothes and going out. The money that she has saved covers the holidays and will be used to help fund driving lessons.

I think you have to start by trusting them unless you know that they will spend every penny immediately but a lot depends on what you think your son will spend the money on. Dd is fortunate in that she doesn't have transport costs but for a lot of her friends a considerable amount of money goes on fairs.

Ema will only pay the money into account in the teenagers name.

thats a good idea making her pay for phone...will try that one.
He has also mentioned saving for driving lessons and a car too so hopefully he will be sensible. My DS2 walks to school too so we dont have that outlay on bus fares either.
