13yr DD wont get in the shower

all I seem to do is moan for my dd to get in the shower! If I left her im sure she would go more than a week. Ive told her that she will get skitted in school if she starts to smell but she just goes off in a strop.

Dont get me wrong she's not a total slob and always goes out looking clean and tidy but I know she's not gettng washed properly and I really want her to start having daily showers.

How do I get through to her without her taking offence??

Tell her she smells ,even if it's not true(I have a 13 yr old dd too) That will get her in there. it's better it comes from you. And I do not know why teenage girls are so water phobic.

I tell dd she stinks all the time, shes 13 too and would happily not wash for a week if I didnt remind her.
She also uses the excuse that shes scared of the shower after watching boy in the striped pyjamas.

Apparently it will all change in the next year and I'll be shouting at her to get out the bathroom.

A lot of 13 year olds do this. She won't smell if she doesn't have a shower every day. Just leave her to it and she'll probably be in the bathroom all the time.

A few months ago mine wouldn't get in the shower.

Now she won't get out.

My ds also 13 had the same problem and hen he discovered hair styling and that he can't actually style his hair without having a shower every morning. He's washed his hair twice today and he's not even leaving the house.

Ignore it. If you nag her she will only dig her heals in even harder. It's not hurting anyone and she will soon learn the natural consequences of not showering for herself.

take her toiletry shopping some nice fragrant novelty stuff might help

Whether she'll smell or not depends a lot on the stage of puberty she is at. Children don't smell if they don't shower every day.

If she doesn't smell then leave it. If she does take custardo's advice and take her shopping - is there a Lush near you?

I have this problem with my 9yo!

Though, she will do baths if I let her use a full tank of hot water, and plenty of bubbles. Thing is, I don't want her to always use a full tank and she jsut keeps putting off and putting off until it gets to 3 days or so and still not shower.

She tends to sneakily get dressed/cahnged quickly so then she can say I've already changed I'll do it 2n/in the morning. I've now started telling her to get back upstairs and no dinner/breakfast til she has showered.
