He is 14, mostly cheerful and well behaved, just the usiual teenage grunts. We don't swear at home but I can look at his myspace profile and where they type in how they are, he is swearing - the f word and the s words! I am gobsmacked because he is not like that at all. I know its probably bravado, but its just not him. But he doesn't know that I look!

best advice, don't look...

Hattie05 · 29/03/2009 21:12

I'm sure thats the story for most teenagers! angels at home, grumpy and swearing to be cool with friends.

Can imagine must be pretty grim to see of your own child though. I dread and fear parenting teens! I always think of the 'Kevin' character by Harry Enfield.

Most of them do it. Mine did on MSN but kept it outside the house IYKWIM? Never spoke like that around the family.

Didn't like it but what can you do?

NotanOtter · 29/03/2009 21:13

been there done that

it is GUTTING to realise that your child is doing it but I think probably most are

have words - strong words

dont swear!

I have never looked at ds's my space/bebo
he is 17 now and he probally swears his head off.

charitygirl · 29/03/2009 21:17

LoL - of course he swears! I was effing and blinding at 11 but only at school...I wouldn't have dared at home! AS long as he's not doing it to you, or anyone you 'know', then it's up to him I think.

MollyRogerslikeanEasterabbit · 29/03/2009 21:18

see, this is exactly why my mum is not allowed to be my friend on FB

oxocube · 29/03/2009 21:19

perfectly normal I'm afraid

random · 29/03/2009 21:25

I'm not my ds[16] friend on facebook ...I so don't wanna know

noonki · 29/03/2009 21:34

if that's the worst he is up to you are lucky!

it's kind of nice that he isnt doing it at home as it shows he respects you.
