DD1 has a friend staying over and I have found Pro Plus tablets on my stairs!

Just googled them and although I am sure they are not dangerous I am decidedly pissed off because my 21 month old could have picked them up and eaten them! They probably would only have had him bouncing off the walls but still !!!

DD and her friend are nearly 13. I found them last night after they had come in from a disco and the friend in question said they must belong to one of the other friends we had for tea and have fallen out said friends blazer pocket. DP and I had been up and down stairs putting the other DC to bed so, no actually, they hadn't! So she lied!

I did a very naughty thing and felt in her blazer pockets after they had gone to bed and there is another one there. I know I shouldn't have but I just wanted to be sure.

So, my question is, do I tell her parents or just leave it?

Pro Plus are caffeine tablets for anyone, like me, who doesn't know.

I would leave it - they are caffeine tablets so presumably she thinks they will help her keep energetic. Most teenagers go through stages where they can be anaemic (due to rapid growth etc) and so she may just be feeling tired alot of the time and thinks this is a good way to keep awake!

On the other hand I do think you need to say something general (while your DD's friend is still around) about asking her friends to make sure they keep these tablets secure for the sake of your 21 month old.

SKYTVADDICT · 28/02/2009 08:44

Yes I probably will - her mum is a pharmasist so she may be supposed to have them. She is very thin and hardly eats anything and thinks she is fat so it is probably her way of keeping awake! I will also have a chat with DD when she is gone about whether she uses them too.

I dunno.Pro Plus is allegedly harmless but I took some once to get me through a festival and had heart palpatations and couldnt sleep for 3 days.I thought I was dying!

I wonder does she think they might have some effect on her metabolism or something and will help keep her slim?Might be a bit worrying?

Seems young to be having to take pro plus really..

SKYTVADDICT · 28/02/2009 08:53

I did think that too Scoot (thought you were having a lie in by the way!) Can you tell I am still swinging either way?

DD1 did tell me a while back that some of her friends drank red bull and cheaper substitues to give them a buzz so that's why it rang alarm bells.

Can you imagnine L or M on these! I haven't even told DP I found them, he would go mental.

I am.In bed with Laptop.Because of course I still woke up at 5.30, M time.

Red Bull is banned in France I think. So someone somewhere must think its a bit questionable.Im sure its OK in small doses but you wonder why they need a 'buzz'.And to be really paranoid, what it will lead to.(Sorry to be so Daily Mail but is what I was like at that age and lets say my late teens were not the period in my life of which I am most proud!)

Perish the thought of L and M with ANY kind of caffeine.I would be done for!

AnyFucker · 28/02/2009 11:33

I am failing to understand the laid-back attitude to you discovering that your dd'd friends (and probably your dd) are self-medicating at the age of 13.

why would you let this go??

I'm sorry, although pro-plus are relatively harmless I would be about the reasoning behind why they are taking them and bloody wondering what will be next??

I would be sorting this out right now, and informing the other girls parents.

notnowbernard · 28/02/2009 11:42

I think I agree with Anyfucker

If I found my dds with ProPlus I'd be worried, not because they are ProPlus (let's be honest, they're not going to cause harm) but because it'd be clear they were looking for a buzz of some sort

And then I'd be remembering what I got up to as a teenager

Then I'd start freaking

tatt · 02/03/2009 09:31

they may have been in the pocket because she had the sense not to take them but didn't want to refuse when given them. Time for a calm disussion about what they are, why there are risks in taking them and why you will NOT have them left where a child can get at them.

Sixer · 07/03/2009 22:59

i'm with nnb. There's a buzzzzzz to be found! somewhere?!?

BatmansWilly · 11/03/2009 23:11

I'd worry that they were attempting to take a few at a time for a buzz. "over-dose" on caffiene. Because that is exactly the kind of thing I would have done at that age.

Not trying to be dramatic here but now its pro-plus, tomorow it could be anthetamine.
