teenagers talking about sex online?

if you discovered your teenager was talking about sex online (including saying they are a virgin) to someone they don't know what would you do?

Yes I have been snooping - they are strictly forbidden to post photos of themselves on the net but they registered for YouTube and posted a video containing their photo. Found that by chance and it had a poem and picture in it so I was concerned and checked up. They had to take the video down, were banned from the net (except from homework under supervision) for a week and given a reminder about not knowing who you are talking to. But we also offered to take them to a meeting with this "friend" to find out if they really were a teenager.

Having allowed them back on the net I see things have got worse!

what do you mean exactly when you say things have 'got worse'?

(I'd be worried too)

conversations were innocent enough previously - now they are about sex.

I think it's perfectly normal tbh, but if you have rules about internet usage and especially safety ones, I still think it's worth approaching your daughter(?) and telling why you are concerned and disappointed. I would also withdraw internet privileges as this is a question of trust. The teenager will talk about sex though, it's all they think about!

don't mind them talking about sex to people they know. I worry about doing so with someone who claims to be a 14 year old but could be a paedophile grooming them.
