Xmas stockings - Do your teens still get them and if so what do you put in?

I find this especially difficult with boys. Can't fill it up with cheapo toys or crayons anymore. It ends up having CDs etc and becomes very expensive.

don't have teens yet, so not sure if they still have them...i used to....the stocking was the best bit!

how about filling it with lynx type smells, hair gel, new comb or brush, badges, scarf, novelty or posh socks,

how old are your boys and how do they dress...give me a better idea!

I don't have a teen yet but DH and I still do stockings for each other (not as sad as it sounds - we prefer that to getting expensive stuff under the tree). You can't put in the whiskey miniature/beer/red wine but I also look for cheap CDs/DVDs from Amazon/Tesco; nice chocs; manly bath stuff (Boots usually have three-for-two) - shaving stuff/nice shower gel/hair gel/wax (if they use it - DH a bit too thin on top now ); key ring; amusing boxers; fun little toys from Hawkins Bazaar that they can have a laugh with on Xmas day itself and then be too cool for!; books - again, cheap in the Works or similar; look in camping shops for manly gadgets - my DH is a DofE leader and has had a map holder, an emergency whistle and a spork in recent years!

smellies, cds, magazines, posters, socks/undies, man jewellery, belts, itunes voucher, pens and pencils are aways useful,

DS 15 still insists on one - he usually gets chocolate coins (demanded by tradition), a big tube of smarties or similar, and a couple of Games Workshop figures which would otherwise have been "proper" presents, so no real additional cost IYSWIM

Chocolates? if they are over 16 a lottery ticket, definitely toiletries, new socks etc.

DH & I still get stockings when we spend Christmas with my parents Last year they included a pristine new TEA TOWEL in DH's (to help with the after lunch washing up)!

We have always had (since we were children) tooth brushes, pens and pencils, deodorants (like impulse or lynx), a couple of little fun things like lego cars or stickers (even up to quite recently)!

But in our house, only the stockings are brought by father Christmas. It wasn't until I came on MN that I found out that in some homes, FC brings ALL the presents. I was a bit !

My sister and I decided a few years ago to do stockings for our parents in return (they were really surprised and chuffed to receive them. Off the top of my head, I think we put similar things in each, but with a mum/dad kind of slant to them. A mug, a small toy, some kind of soap or aftershave, novelty pencil, bag of chocolate coins, a satsuma and some brazil nuts...

Thanks for the advice. Lottery/scratch cards good idea. Trouble is my boys (17 and 14) have inherited expensive taste. 14 year old has requested Abercrombie smelly stuff at £45 a bottle and they seem to be partial to designer underwear. My fault I feel! But Posters are a great idea.

I don't want to stop stockings, they enjoy them. Last year we were in France and they were worried they wouldn't get one.

My 22 year old DD still has one and insisted she got for her 27 year old boyfriend and his twin brother and their 25 year old sister because they didn't bother and she felt bad. She is staying with her boyfriends parents for Christmas this year because of work and Christmas is not going to be the same. I wont have anyone to wrap the presents or sort them out because she did it, she loves Christmas so much and I just hate wrapping.

I have beein thinking I need to cut the cost of stockings this year cos CDs etc were getting a bit expensive for ds1 16. Dd is 13 and it is easy to get lots of nice and chepa bits and bobs for her. For ds1 it will probably be a couple of silly toys (99p type) from hawkins Bazaar, socks, a book, toothbrush (family tradition for us too pookamoo) choc coins, satsuma, deodorant, badges ...hmm ths cost always goes way over what I had imagined!

DD1 21,DD2 18 and DD3 16 all have stogkings.
They love them.. I put in swets, toiletries.underwear. cinema vouchers,notebooks.pens, cheap DVD ( usually mange to get one they like for arounf £5). Last year DD1 and 2 had a starbucks card with £5 on it, which they really loved. DD3 didn't really go to starbucks then but she does now so will probably do it again.
DH and I also do each other a stocking but it is smaller than the girls.

Girls are easier - makeup, hair things, tights etc.

My DS still likes some school stationery items - felt pens etc. I also like Hawkins Bazaar for fun things under £2! Socks, sweets. Last year he got a "Braniac" pen that shocks anyone trying to use it (was a favourite!).

Also, Poundland can be fun - tubes of glo-sticks etc.

My DSs are 19 and 14 and still have stockings. They have sweets (including chocolate coins!), satsumas, toiletries, boy/man jewellery (Topman has cheap and cheerful bits and bobs), pens etc and usually a paperback. Also occasional gadgets - a book light (a couple of quid from Robert Dyas) came in handy when DS2 went camping... Great fun to shop for.

I'm 40 and I still get one if I have Christmas at my mum and dad's house!
