DS’s face has been getting worse recently and I’ve now noticed he’s got pimples on his back / shoulders too.
What would people recommend we buy him? I’ve previously bought Roche Possay, is that still highly recommended or is there something better? I don’t mind spending money on something that is know to be effective.

Take him to the GP. The GP can try him with proven prescription creams until something works.

I had terrible spots as a teenager. No amount of skincare products made a difference. I went to the GP and was given antibiotics, which cleared them.

I wasn’t sure if it was bad enough to warrant a GP referral, but I was thinking more about prescription medication rather than creams. If they can prescribe topical treatment then that could be a good option. I’ll speak with DS about it. Thanks.

Definitely GP, prescription stuff is much more effective. Epiduo or Duac are good topical options but they bleach fabric so best to use white bedlinen and pjs. Or there are topical antibiotic gels.

Cerave or Cetaphil face washes are good. Look for a light moisturiser with salicylic acid.

PS GP can prescribe lots of things without needing to refer to a dermatologist- that’s only needed for the more nuclear options

Is he showering/ washing properly after every sport? Make sure the water is not too hot as it can cause spots.

spots are obviously normal in teens so depends how bad it actually is. My dd (also sporty) used cerave (the blemish control) cleanser and moisturiser.
