My 15 yr old daughter has met a 16 yr old boy over Snapchat through mutual contacts and started chatting. He lives 45-60mins away by train and came to meet her for the first time and they hung out here in the house (?!) playing video games, having a meal and then walked to Starbucks. He seemed polite and well mannered (although I was given strict instructions not to hang around and chat).
They've arranged to meet in a weeks time when she will go to his house (parents will be home, he’s already told DD to excuse his mum, she’ll ask 100 questions)
Firstly, I think it’s a bit strange, I couldn’t get away fast enough from my parents at that age and these kids are choosing to have what are basically teenage play dates at each others homes!
secondly, it’s my first time navigating this. I’m having to hold back from asking her questions about him every 5 minutes and constantly questioning what I should be doing/shouldn’t be doing.
we’ve had the talks on sex, contraception, consent, making GCSE’s her priority, photos etc. But I also don’t want to make this bigger than it is. It seems like they just enjoy hanging out together.
any advice welcome! She’s the oldest grandchild, so real advice from siblings. And I’m a single parent.
