Saturday jobs for teens - what and how?

Advice needed!
How did your teen get a Saturday job? What is their job?
My dc has just started Y12 and needs to earn some cash.
In the 90s we used to go into businesses with our CVs - is this still the done thing or is it all online?
She has tried the retailer where she did work exp but nothing doing. Not tried anything else yet.

Use Indeed or similar to find vacancies - dd and friends all found retail/hospitality jobs this way

I think my first plan would be to go to my local Facebook groups and see if anyone who knew me or my child had any positions open or general work available. That seems more likely to bear fruit than trying to find work in retail or hospitality right now.

We are a seaside town so there are plenty of seasonal jobs for older teens. There isn't much else.

My friend and I did cleaning jobs at our school when we were in 6th form. It was 2 hrs after school each day and I preferred it to my previous Saturday job in a shop as I had the weekend free and I didn't have to speak to anyone! The headteacher came around to ask if any of us were interested in the roles. We said yes as long as we didn't have to do toilets 😂 and they were nice enough to be accommodating. You daughter could ask her headteacher.

That’s interesting - I didn’t know you could find more causal/PT work that way.

I think a mixture of both looking on indeed, but also going into local pubs and cafes etc with a copy of their cv asking if anyone has any vacancies. Mine found jobs this way at that age.

DD found hers on a local Facebook group as well. Loads of casual jobs come up on there. We are in a tourist destination though so that helps.

My ds applied to loads of jobs through indeed and had no luck, then a local pub put a shout out on Facebook, I replied, he went in for a trial shift and got the job - pot washing in the kitchen. Local cafes also put signs in their windows sometimes - I think it’s sometimes easier to get something directly than go through the job sites.

Does she play any sports? Both of mine got the first coaching qualification in cricket/netball/tennis and were offered lots of work coaching on Saturday and Sunday morning.

The teenagers who earned the most, though, were the ones who got their soccer referee badge - they were paid per game, and could ref up to 5 u11 or younger games in a morning, as they’re so short! Had to deal with some bonkers parents, though…

I think it must be difficult for teens to get Saturday jobs these days. When I was a kid everyone did. I worked in Woolies. But as many high street retailers have gone under, there's less jobs unless you want to go into hospitality. I hope your daughter gets one though..... looking back it was all about the money but actually they're great for life skills.....time management, money management, taking orders, working with different generations etc.

My teen is applying for part time work through a Google search of Teen jobs
