Not a biggie but what should I say?

Picked up DD17 from a friend’s to take her to work and whilst I was looking for my AirPods in her overnight bag, I found 3 fake ID cards (driving licenses) and a pack of cigarettes.
I secretly smoked at 14/15, it’s not “drugs” and I’m guessing the fake ID cards are common amongst the summer birthday kids.
Should I say anything?
And if so, what?.
Not dealt with this with 2 older DSs.

As I was understand it fake ID cards are often real ID cards that belong to other people.

Why wouldn't you say something?

SaraCrewe06 · 09/07/2026 11:06

I didn’t realise that. You’re saying she’s borrowed it?

They probably are fake. Lots of people used them st that age when I was young. They are unlikely to work in most places except maybe corner shops and pubs but at 17 I’d let her get on with it. We all had them

Hadit16 · 09/07/2026 11:08

Not a biggie, as you say. I would leave it be. Par for the course

Pretty standard behaviour for a 17yo, I’m sure not sure why you’re shocked! I wouldn’t say anything - realistically it’s not going to change things.

Betadelta · 09/07/2026 11:09

That sounds pretty normal for a 17yo.

Nousernameideaaga · 09/07/2026 11:10

Maybe just be honest that you happened upon the cigarettes whilst looking for your AirPods, and remind her of the very serious dangers from smoking.
But try not to lecture

DaisyChain505 · 09/07/2026 11:11

If she was 13 yes I’d be worried but at 17 she’s not far off legal anyways. If you have an open and easy relationship you could jokingly bring it up and say “Do you really get away with using these, they look nothing like you!” And see where the conversation takes you.

Platypus7 · 09/07/2026 11:11

If that was my daughter I would mention it. I found a vape in her room at that age and explained that I know she’s old enough but I don’t want it in the house etc. Also where is she going with the fake ids? Were you aware she was going to pubs etc? If not and she’s been lying about where she’s going that would be a whole other conversation too.

flippinnorastights · 09/07/2026 11:24

The fake id wouldn’t bother me, most of them have it. I have a major issue with smoking as it’s just not only dangerous but heinously expansive and stinks . With vapes I have told them o don’t ever want to see them and reminded them that the real dangers are still unknown

Thanks all. We’ve had a chat. All fine.
Her face when I said I’d found the cigarettes and cards was a picture!
