so my oldest ds (16) told me other day he’s got a boyfriend 😳
i didn’t really know what to say tbh i just said i’m glad he told me n i love him no matter what
he seemed dead nervous sayin it n i feel bad cos i prob looked shocked but i wasn’t angry just didn’t expect it

now he’s asked if he can stay at his bf’s house at weekend n i dunno what to do 😩
like i wanna be supportive but also he’s still my baby n i feel weird about it??
i wouldn’t let my 16yo daughter stay at a boy’s house so i dunno if it’s diff or same??

i don’t wanna make him feel like i don’t accept him cos i do i really do
i just dunno the rules for this sort of thing

what do u do?? do u let them stay or say no?? i don’t wanna upset him 😢

I don't have a teenager but I wouldn't let my child sleep over at a boyfriend or girlfriends house when I've literally been told they exist the day before. You have to get to know them first, find out their home situation etc. I'd probably work up to it over months if not longer

I have a child that age, and there is absolutely no way!

How old is the boyfriend?

liveforsummer · 13/11/2025 20:35

Probably not although at least the pregnancy risk isn’t there. I picked up dd from an adult free party on Saturday night and multiple boys and girls were staying over. Some of them boy/girl couples. I was amazed so many parents agreed to it so perhaps I’m too strict - edited to add they are 15/16 😬

How old is the bf? I would want to meet him.

I let DS’s gf stay over. But they had been together about 6 months, we’d got to know her really well. They were in 6th form, just DS is young in the year so was still 16, she was 17 by then.
