14 yo sunburnt and won’t wear rash vest

14 yo is red headed and burns easily. We are on holiday in Italy and he has burnt his shoulders and a bit of his chest. I think it looks quite bad, but he says it doesn’t hurt. (I call BS). He doesn’t mind wearing his rash vest in the lake but hates wearing it at the pool. He says it slows him down on the slide and no one else is wearing one and feels self conscious in it. He is getting very annoyed with me fussing him about it all, and we are coming to the end of a 2 week holiday in a campervan where he has played brilliantly with his intense sister (8 yo) and has generally been really good. I don’t want to end the holiday on a sour note but it makes me feel like such a shit mum when I see his shoulders bare in the pool in hot hot temps. We’ve got one day left. Worth the row or let him make his own mistakes?

Of course it's not worth the row. He's old enough to know to put suncream on.

Can’t he just reapply the factor 50 hourly?

I didn’t even know you could buy rash vests for 14yo’s. Certainly never seen any teens wearing them.

You can buy rash vests for adults…they’re for surfing normally. Why would you think there wouldn’t be a rash vest that fits a teenage boy?
