...any suggestions for a small car with a reasonable(!) insurance rating?

Good safety rating obviously top priority.

Not sure on budget yet - probably £3k ish.

We contacted the company she had the provisional insurance with the day she passed.

They gave us a quote based on her having a full license and then they cancelled the provisional insurance and set the new one up as a completely new deal.

If your 17 year old has their own car to learn to drive in, the initial insurance will be based on their provisional license. What happens when they pass and have a full license? Do you just contact the insurer and they'll update the policy, with you paying the extra? I'm just used to having annual policies so am checking how this works.

The learner insurance becomes invalid the minute they pass their test. We rung them and told them and they wouldn’t insure my DS once passed so we had to find new cover.

A lot of insurers won't insure teens so you will need to check your insurance company will.

It's worth shopping about a bit to see if you can get a cheaper deal.

You want a naff badge.

Look at Dacias.

They are within your budget and the insurance good.
