DD (15) has been threatened on MySpace. What to do?

Last night my DD came to us to say that an 'unknown' person had given her some pretty awful abuse on MySpace, the language was bad and they'd threatened to 'come to your house and f*ing kill you'. Of course she's pretty scared by this. The person just came up as 'Unknown'.

What would you do? Can this person be traced via MySpace?

report it to police - myspace must have a policy? a 'contact us' button.

tell her to register another myspace and just tell her friends

Poor dd, sounds awful. Agree with Custy - report to the cops and to MySpace.

(Custy, very good to see you again, btw!)

www.bullying.co.uk/

these will be able to advise

Thanks Custardo, yes I've just checked and you can report abuse apparently. Who are these nutters though?

I've just found her profile and noticed that she's saying she's 16 when she's actually only 15... makes me wonder what she'd said that prompted this sort of response as her profile is also set to 'private' which means she would have had to add this person as a friend in order for them to see her conversations... scary.

Will talk to her tonight and ask to see the exchange of messages.

make it a condition of her using the internet - or cancel it.

LaineyW · 24/04/2008 14:04

Thanks for the links too Custardo, very useful.

Glad you can get it sorted Lainey - maybe in the longterm this will teach her a valuable lesson.

Thank goodness you're back Custy!
