My dd wants to know how old you have to be to have a part time job. I think it is 14 for everything except baby sitting, what do you think?

A lot of places won;t take teenagers until they are 16. This is because there are a lot of rules anbout the hurs undre 16's can work,

harpomarx · 15/04/2008 23:56

i thought 13, but that was me back in the 80s

What about paper rounds and delivering free papers? I thought you could be 13 nto do them

harpomarx · 15/04/2008 23:59

i started before 13, I'm sure but that was probably because mum and dad had a shop that they made let us work in

and progressed to...?

Solitaire · 16/04/2008 00:21

I was brainwashed, up to caring for old people and then onto nursing!!

Its 13. The hours are restricted especially on Sunday. Most larger companies wont take them until they are 16 but a lot of the girls I know started at 13, in cafes and shops. I'm hoping DD will find something this summer at 14.

Thanks for all the replies. DD is 13 and wants a job badly, she has a paper round and occasionally babysits which I am sort of ok with (she really does seem to young imo.) I suppose if she got a job and the hours were ok and it was not to much for her then I would let her take a chance,.
