We're happy to get PJs though he normally wears boxers - but would the latter be acceptable in hospital? If so, saves a bit of money. Obviously we'd make him wear a top.

I’d say he needs some bottoms or shorts. Boxers don’t always cover everything if they are the cotton ones.

If he wears a hospital gown he can get away with boxers but if he wants to wear his own top then he'll need bottoms.

It is quite hot in hospital so shorts are best. You can get cheap packs of pj shorts in Primark although it doesn't have to be pyjamas, has he got any light weight sports shorts? He could wear those.

He needs bottoms without a fly to avoid giving anyone an eyeful. Primark, Matalan, ASDA etc all seem to offer packs of sleep trousers or shorts. Sainsbury's TU clothing have 25% off at the moment. My DS happily wears their soft jersey sleep shorts.

My son wore short pyjamas when he was in hospital for comfort and no accidental flashing

No, underwear is not acceptable on a hospital ward. He needs bottoms.

Thank you, appreciate the advice.

Surely he has some normal shorts and t shirts that will do as temporary pj's if money is tight? My ds is always adopting day wear as night wear items.
