Town life for teens in Taunton

We would not have chosen Taunton but our sons will be attending a sporty school there, and switching to a much longer school day than they are used to (including Saturday school for our oldest - 13yrs). Our youngest (10 yrs) hates long drives, so a very short commute is good. At first, I thought a house in a neighbouring village, or the countryside, would be lovely. Unfortunately, hubby vetoed isolated country living with teens - says they will be too bored - but he is open to villages. For various reasons though, we are keen on a house around Elm Grove / Birch Grove / The Avenue in Taunton. We think the boys will have more independence living in town (they will enjoy the cricket and football clubs, and mostly enjoy a very short school run that can allow more healthy family and sleep time). Does anyone have experience of this part of Taunton? I see it mentioned favourably in one or two threads. Anything to watch out for? I do like the idea of the boys getting more independence as they become teens - not needing to be driven everywhere. I quite like driving them personally, but feel more freedom could do them good over the next few years. Sundays we can head out of town.
So... long story short, any warning about Elm Grove, Taunton and surrounds?
Advice most appreciated.
Thanks

You might be better posting on a facebook group - try "Taunton Matters". I think your question will get much more traction.

We used to live just off the Kingston Road on the way out of Taunton to Kingston St Mary and DS went to Taunton School. Lots of his friends lived in local villages so once they all started socialising in town at the weekends we became the house they would all stay in after their nights out as we were walking distance from town. Which was fine with me. Never knew how many would be in various rooms when I got up some times!

oh it will be quite different then! Lol. I used to live in Rosebank CT (& also the Wild Coast) before moving to the SW. I don’t know Taunton but I suspect it’s quite similar to the SW town I live near, if that’s the nice area of Taunton it will be a good place to position yourself with teens.

Hi the areas you are looking at are all nice areas, it's an easy 5 min walk to town but you're also close to French weir/longrun meadow which is lovely for walks.

Anywhere in the French weir/Staplegrove area are good areas.

I have a teen dd, I won't lie there's not loads for teens to do in Taunton but you are close to Exeter and Bristol as well as the coast so there's always something to do.

Wow! What a coincidence 😁

I live near Taunton and I have 3 teenagers. Mine always seem to have things to do but it depends on their interests really. Ds1 likes his music, ds2 does park run and ds3 does watersports and drama.
