Lymecycline for teen acne

My DC is 13 and suffers of moderate/severe acne on their forehead. We went to the dermatologist already a couple of times and eventually we have been prescribed Lymecycline. I am a bit worried about taking antibiotic for a long period if time (min 3 months) given there is no certainty it is going to work.

Did any of your teens try Lymecycline, and if it worked did the acne came back once you stopped the treatment.

Thanks to anyone who might share their experience. It is such an awful condition for our DC, which is really affecting their mental health.

DS has been advised by the GP to stop taking lymecycline now as he had thought of self harming which can often go hand in hand with this drug.

You should definitely yellow card this as I don't think it's a well-known side effect (just checked the leaflet and it's not mentioned).

Of course it could be a coincidence but unlikely as he was fine before this drug. The GP seems to think it's been known to affect teenagers wrt thoughts of self harming. He didn't seem too surprised.
