Greasy- but curly hair

DSS has tight curly hair. It's amazing!
But hitting puberty and it is greasy at the roots, and he is getting quite pongy.

He washes it a couple of times a week with a curly hair shampoo and conditioner. But it's getting to the point that he is noticeably whiffy, and it really is coming from his hair.

It needs to be a convo between him and his dad, but his dad is at a bit of a loss as to what to suggest... wash more, wash less, different shampoo? It's the polar opposite of my hair type so I don't know what to suggest.

Different shampoo, and make sure he’s rinsing adequately

Any shampoo recommendations for this hair type?

I use 'elvive shampoo for greasy roots and dry ends'. Still need to wash it alternate days though which dss should try. I also have curly hair.

I got DD a scalp massager brush which she now uses when she washes her hair and the greasy roots are gone. She's not washing any more frequently, I'm think she just wasn't getting to the oily scalp with just her fingers. It was only about a quid.

Sulphate free! Sulphates are terrible for all hair types- strip all your oils and your hair gets greasy to compensate. There may be an adjustment period but one of the best things I ever did was swapping.
