my DS has just confined with me that a good friend took hard drugs with his Mother ffs. This is not on some sink estate, she is in business. Her DS has had mental health issues which goes some way to explain it.
what the hell.

Irresponsible if true, yes.
Is the child in danger? If so, take action, don't delay. Drugs are dangerous; will the mother know what to do if her child runs into difficulty?

Piss poor parenting.

My son has a friend who " apparently " sits in his back garden with his dad, smoking cannabis.

All sorts goes on, unfortunately.

Dingbatbingo · 20/02/2024 14:07

Sadly I took many drugs with my dad at that age. Had some horrible experiences. I grew out of it and he didn’t and then we had nothing in common.
he died young.
i feel sad for this boy as I Have a good idea of what his upbringing has been like 😭

LBFseBrom · 20/02/2024 14:14

It is possible the boy was not telling the truth. I doubt any parent would take 'hard' drugs in front of, never mind with, their teenage child. Therefore, I would take it with a pinch of salt.

well I’m afraid you are quite naive then.

You can’t be for real ??????

My flatmate at university's dad used to take cocaine with him. We all thought the dad was an absolute arse. Poor kid.

My stepkids mum is taking them to Amsterdam on holiday in a few months. They're only 16 and 17. They've been smoking weed since they were about 15. My DH tried to nip it in the bud at the time but was unsupported by their mum so they ended up just living with her. She also takes coke regularly and both boys have come back from her brother's the morning after having not slept and completely wired so we suspect they've been taking coke with their uncle, but difficult to prove it. Thankfully they no longer live with her or see her much. I'm rarely surprised now at the behaviour of some parents.

Why? Teenagers do exaggerate in order to impress sometimes, I came across that with friends of my teen years ago. That's why I think the story, though not impossible, is unlikely.

If you doubt any parent would take drugs in front of their teen then you are painfully naive

LBFseBrom · 20/02/2024 22:00

Maybe a joint but I think it unlikely that a parent would shoot up or snort in front of their child. I could be wrong of course.

You are definitely wrong. It’s happening now in houses all across the country. Do you seriously beleive that people with addictions and substance misuse issues all have the presence of mind to wait until the kids are out of the house?
what about kids who are too young to go anywhere on their own or kids with no routine or discernible sleep pattern and are up all night to see god knows what?
do you know how many families live in just one room for several people including kids?
man’s how many of those are vulnerable women with sketchy men around?
how many kids from neglectful backgrounds go on to become parents themselves with no clue how to parent appropriately and just live their lives in front of and with their kids?

You are wrong. I've dealt with loads.

Crackoncrackerjack · 21/02/2024 07:54

You are very wrong

LBFseBrom · 21/02/2024 09:06

I accept I am wrong. I've just never come across it, I've known people who drink heavily who try to hide it, not always successfully but they try. It makes me sad to think children may be exposed to hard drug use by their parents. However, I still think it may be a made up story in this case.
