“Girl in Pieces” - recommended or one to avoid?

My D niece (16) is going through a bit of a tricky time. She lives with my brother and is NC with her alcoholic mother. Failed GCSEs and is likely to get thrown out of college due to sporadic attendance. Has had a couple of boyfriends who dumped her after a few weeks and has a couple of close friends.
She says she’s been suffering from anxiety and panic attacks and my brother says she’s been self harming.
I live 300 miles away. She often texts and chats and stays with us during school holidays but I wish I could help her more. She’s asked for the book “Girl in Pieces” as part of her Christmas present. Reading reviews, I’m worried it might be a bit of a “how to “ guide for self harming. Has anyone with similar teens read it and found this or any other books helpful?
Any other advice gratefully received!

yeah really one to avoid for teenage girls going through a bad time! potential to be very triggering, it’s unlikely it’ll help her at all x

it's a very good book and I think if she was already self harming I would get it for her, but if she isn't I wouldn't think it would be a good idea. (I read it as an adult but have a long history of self harming in my teens and early twenties.)
