Shower in morning or evening

My 13 year old DS wants to shower in mornings rather than evenings… I can see on school mornings it being an extra faff as he has to leave for bus early and his youngest brother also due to start secondary too in Sept. He uses deodorant so I don’t see problem…but wondered what other sons do? Morning

Both.

Hmm, guess that answers the argument! 😁

Morning- even when he has to leave the house at 7.15am to go straight to his morning gym session , oh and usually evening as well and in fact as often as he can until we start shouting about cost of electricity and waste of water . Sigh - at least he isn't one of those smelly teenagers.

I'd let your DS make his own decision on when he showers. If you don't make a big thing of it and he finds it tiring he'll go back to evening showers.

Chasingsquirrels · 14/08/2023 21:44

Whichever they want.

I always shower in the morning before work, dislike showering at night.

legalseagull · 14/08/2023 21:44

As long as he's able to get to school on time the morning is much better. Sweating all night and waking up with bed head isn't a good look - especially during puberty with extra greasy skin and stinky sweat (the teenage boys must have loved me right?!)

spacechimp79 · 14/08/2023 21:45

Always the morning here.

Winnading · 14/08/2023 21:48

As long as they showered, I didnt much care.

GooeyPieForPud · 14/08/2023 21:49

They worked it out over summer holidays as they were leaving much earlier than they did for primary. They worked out how long does it take me to get up, straight into the shower, deodorant and dressed, breakfast, teeth brushed, usually a poo at some point and then 5 minutes for shoes and coat. Bag is packed the night before.

We installed an electric shower into the children's bathroom so they could shower coming home from school too if needed especially when they had rugby or football, no showering allowed at school. They often had mud caked legs. Always hot water available for them. They know how much it costs as we have a smart meter so are conscientious about usage.

I'm still working on more than once a week with mine...

BloominFlower · 15/08/2023 00:12

At the moment it’s random, he’ll have a bath 2-3 times a week and a shower for every other day. During school times it’s in the evening.

Oh dear haha, how old is he?

Doublechins · 15/08/2023 00:46

13 neither unless he is bribed!

12 year old both

MumoftheIrish · 15/08/2023 06:58

Depending on their day of after school activities they’ll shower morning and night. If just school they’ll shower mainly in the morning to avoid bad bed hair šŸ˜‚

Soulstirring · 15/08/2023 07:17

Every morning, sometimes evening too.

calmcoco · 15/08/2023 07:23

I'd go with what he wants. Learning to shower quickly in the morning is a good life skill.

GreenMonstersParty · 15/08/2023 07:26

DD showers at night due to how long it takes to dry her hair. DS showers as soon as he gets up as he can't stand being unwashed in the morning. He normally has one at night too as he doesn't like going to bed not fresh. He likes showering a lot!

I wouldn't be getting involved in this- your DS should shower when he wants to, you just might need to agree timings so that the bathroom is free for everyone to use at someone point in the morning, even if that means he has to get up earlier.

SimSam · 15/08/2023 07:30

When they won't shower you just want them to wash, then they suddenly they swop to showering twice a day and the water meter is a problem Wink
Also I found Changing clothes is a topic - anybody else notice that teenagers go through a stage of wearing same clothes constantly and you can't get them to take the clothes off so they can go into the washing machine. Then suddenly comes the stage where they change clothes twice a day and you've got a washing mountain Smile

EarringsandLipstick · 15/08/2023 07:36

I think teen boys (even more than teen girls) need to shower in the morning, regardless. They are sweaty smelly creatures.

Mine all do sport daily so need to shower at night too.

liveforsummer · 15/08/2023 07:40

Dd10 showers at night dd13 in the morning. Just whatever works I'd say. Let him try it and see

coreas · 15/08/2023 07:56

Mine always had the choice but due to only having one bathroom of anyone wanted a morning shower they had to get up 20 mins before the rest of us, if both teens wanted to I let them work it out between them re times but I had an expectation that the bathroom would be free after 7:30am

ninjamumof2 · 15/08/2023 08:31

Thanks everyone… good to hear, we’ll see how the morning showers go!

Just go with what he wants. At least he is showering!

DD(14) prefers an evening as she has very long hair and she would have to be up at 5 to get it washed and dried in time for school! She showers on a morning at the weekend though.

DS(18) is a morning showerer unless he has been to the gym and then he will shower when he gets home.

Ditto.... DD (16)

mondaytosunday · 15/08/2023 09:36

My son goes to the gym every morning so showers after that (he's not in school now though). He did go through a period of showering twice a day, especially as he played a lot of sport at school so got mucky but generally he had it in the morning as he liked to feel fresh and clean.
My daughter, however, has a bath a couple times a week and a shower once when she washes her hair (which is once a week). This she does at night generally before dinner as no way would she give up that extra few minutes in bed in the mornings!

ninjamumof2 · 15/08/2023 12:36

I can’t wait for teenage lie ins to start! šŸ˜†
