Trainers that will last longer than Air Force Ones

DS (18) is on his 4th or 5th pair of Air Force Ones - the soles wear through after about 4-5 months. I get that they are really not designed for walking to school etc. He is not massively into the fashion aspect of them, just finds them v comfortable and obvs likes being the same as everyone else.

Can anyone recommend trainers with tougher soles and waterproof-ish that will last longer than AF1, and are popular with teenage boys?

Have you tried a Nike outlet store? Lots of AF1s in our local one last time I went.

@PinkMimosa yes we've had them discounted, but I think shoes ought to last longer than this, whatever the price, and now that ds is an adult and his feet aren't growing, I'd expect his shoes to last a year or more. I would even pay more for really good quality, but I feel like the price of AF1 is just for the brand, and the quality is poor.
