Hormones and dd 11 with the same shoe size as me, how did that happen?

this is a hard stage dd1 11 and a half, where has my little one gone?
Hormones, erractic periods, wanting to be 2 foot shorter and not wear ladies size 8 clothes or size 7 shoes. She is taller than her grandmother already!

How did she get so big so quick?

I don't remember my mum having to get me bras until I was about 14. Its all to much. I want my little girl back NOW.

am dreading this bit, think it will the hardest bit of all.
dd 8, has got a slight baby bud and I am devastated. Is too soon . I want to pause time!

Last night I was so upset, silly really.

She looks about 15, but has a young face IYKWIM?

At least she doesn't want to wear make-up.

If she started her periods early she may not grow much taller. My DD was just 11 with size 6 feet (I'm a 4) but bless her she stopped growing at 5ft 3 aged 13 whereas her less developed friends shot passed her and have more of a teenage figure. DD is very curvy. Dont know if this helps or not just giving our experience. Most of her friends started before age 13 so they do seem to be growing up earlier nowadays.

i've got one of those too Wotzonked. I find it quite distressing.She is a moody cow too and quite obviously hates me on a regular basis.Mine has size 6 feet and is taller than me and wearing size 12 adult clothes.I can't keep up.She really wears me out.

Her moods, get me down especially when I have PMT (like now). So hard to keep it in perspective.

I get upset for her, she's all gangly and awkward in herself and hates to be the youngest but tallest in her class.

In half term I asked her if she wanted to see some of her mates that live nearby. dd said, no because they were all so much smaller and she felt like a giant freak.

What do you say, I felt so sad for her, she can't hide her height. She must be about 5'3. She does have one or two mates that are similar in height, so she is not alone in her tallness.

Hopefully as you say abouteve, she will stop growing soon.

These poor tall girls! DD is 13 (just, thank goodness, as I got very strange looks saying she was 12). She is 5'7", wears size 9 shoes and is very angular. She too is the youngest in the class but there are a few girls (no boys) near her height. I do feel for her but hope she will blossom, and stop growing, soon.

ooh i'm dreading this stage too.
Bet she looks fantastic though Wotzonked doesn't she?...if only you could get her to believe that.
My sisters girls were very tall as children...(i mean off the scale). She was told by doctor that if they started their periods early then the growth would slow down dramatically. One did (9) and ended up being about 5foot 5...the other was later (14) and is about 5 foot 10. (so still not very tall)
My Dd (5) is tall for her age and has a size 13 1/2 shoe...i'm hope she doesn't start her periods too young.

I agree starting periods early can be a disadvantage to their potential growth. My DD was always tall compared to her friends but stopped growing (I think) at 13. I'm only 5ft 2 but her dad is tall and I hoped she would be quite a bit taller than me but it doesnt look likely now.

Still they are what they are.

Yes I have read up on the www.bbc.co.uk site that once they start their periods, that their growth then slows down.

It reads
Growing taller is one of the first external signs that a girl is experiencing puberty. This is just the beginning.

Kicked off by sex hormones, the growth spurt is closely related to the arrival of periods. Once the ovaries are mature, the legs have generally finished growing. Any increase in height after periods have begun, usually comes just from the torso. A general rule is that a girl will grow no more than 6cm after her first period.

By 14, on average, the spine has also finished growing. Lastly, the bones of the pelvis widen and become smooth, in preparation for childbirth. This can occur up to the age of 18 or even later.

I'm still not sure if it will affect our girls by started their periods when they are young (some 9, 10 yrs) much earlier than the previous generations. Especially as there is a trend for women are having babies later.

DD1 14 was the tallest in her year in primary school. Soon as she got to high school, all the others shot over her, now she is like one of the smallest at 5'3 just tell her that they are all going to end up taller than her, because they deffo will

I was wondering about this, recently. DD is 10 and just had a big growth spurt. She was always 25th to 50 th centile, she has now shot up to just under 9Oth centile. She is 148cm. She has no fat but has become curvy and has small boobs, and has just started growing pubic hair. Weightwize she is 36kl
I am expecting her periods to start any day really, I was 12 when I started

I am in the same boat ladies. dd1 will be 10 in april and is in size 10 clothes and size 5 shoes, she is about 3 inches shorter than me and has ahd top have a bre for about 8 months now all we need is the periods and my life will be completely over.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh it's horrible isn't ??

My DD1 is just 13 & she has the boobs, the moods, just waiting for the periods to start.

I KNOW she is growing up & I don't want to stop her but I'm finding it REALLY REALLY hard to accept her as a young lady & not my little girl (which she'll always be)

I find it so sad she is losing all her naiveity & is becoming a sexual being in her own right with secrets & desires of her own.

I'm so proud of her she is a sweetie & is coping with it far better than me!

wails I want my little girl back !!!

So when did you all have the periods chat with your DDs? Our DD1 is just 9, and tall, but still with a child's body - she does seem to be growing up slowly, so I don't want to butt in with lots of talk of growing up, just yet!

Tickle we found a lovely book to gently introduce her to it all- more about the changes & what they mean rather than the pure sex bit.

we still read it & giggle with my 11 year old DD2

Wotzonked - synmpathies. My dd is 12 and it is like the calm before the storm, her boobs and hips have developed, just waiting for the periods now. And the black moods are starting, along with the mystifying strops. She sleeps all the time as well.

On the flipside she can still be lovely and sunny, and she is developing a wickedly funny sense of humour. On a good day I have a great time with her, shopping, lunch, watching films; we even go running together.

She is size 6/8 clothes and has started ti nick all my tops/make up/hairspray etc!

I was near enough the same height as I am now (just shy of 6 foot) when I was 12. With size 9 feet. Combined with the fact I didn't actually hit puberty boobs and periods wise until I was 15 meant I felt a bit freakish for a couple of years, so I hugely sympathise with your dd. However, now I LOVE being so tall, so hopefully she will turn the corner amd realise that being tall is a blessing
