Hi does anyone have recommendations for good places to buy prom dresses for year 11. Not looking to pay more than £250 for the dress. Not hire as daughter refusing that option!!!

Where in the country are you?

Will Dd do eBay worn once? - she will probably get much better that way

Bridal shops have bridesmaids/prom dresses.

TBH we just ordered loads via ASOS and for them altered by a seamstress.

not4profit · 22/03/2023 22:41

My daughter's came from Coast, a few years ago now and it came from a concession within a department store. At the time they had a policy of discounting 15% if it was for a prom ( we wouldn't have known but there was a helpful sales assistant we got chatting to). Easily less than £250 but a lovely dress.

As PP said, bridal shops do prom dresses.

Wellthatsinteresting · 22/03/2023 23:07

There are loads of fb groups selling second hand (sometimes unworn) prom dresses.

Ah, I'm in the midlands so don't know anywhere near you sorry
Whoul she consider hiring? (if unlikely to ever wear it again...)

TeenDivided · 23/03/2023 08:32

Ebay.

Dream Dresses in Oxford Road Reading not sure where in Berkshire you are located but worth a look got DD a dress there a few years ago and others have used them more recently for prom dresses. Not the cheapest but will be able to definitely get one under £250

My DD got hers from SHEIN - it's really beautiful and good quality £35

feemcgee · 23/03/2023 11:19

We are in Glasgow and I took my S6 DD to a popular shop last week to try them on. They were all £400 upwards!!! I've now discovered several websites which have lovely dresses for £100-150, we'll buy one in a size up then get it altered. That seems to be what others are doing too.

We got ours from a Chinese seller - the store /website is Stacees. Highly recommend, the dress is excellent quality and they have a large selection. Ours was made to measure and fit as it should

Chi Chi London, Quiz, ASOS, Boohoo, David Bridals, Facebook marketplace. Also check if your local prom boutiques have any sales on - a lot sell off last years stock half price.

DD got hers from Goddiva, they have a good range of styles and prices. I think it was about £85, then we had it altered (length and neckline), which was way less than we thought (about £15). DD was thrilled, looked amazing, and has worn the dress again for other glam occasions.

Elderflower2016 · 27/03/2023 14:46

Mine got hers from a charity shop. Looked amazing.

I'm sorry but your daughter is the issue here. Unless she's paying, surely it's not her choice whether or not one is hired.

She should be grateful you are prepared to spend that amount of money for a dress to wear for a few hours.

Put your foot down!
