Reading Festival - Air BnB

My 17 year old son is going this year with a group of (sensible) mates. He thinks it's possible to rent an Air BnB or similar and taxi in and out to avoid campjng - anyone have any top tips or experiences to share please? Many thx x

Any AirBnBer renting their place to a group of teenage Reading festival goers would need their head seriously tested. Anybody going to Reading Festival is by definition not sensible. I've been going to festivals all my life with a group of friends and the horror stories I hear about Reading/Leeds are hair raising. It is a rite of passage though for youngsters if they go camp and get down and dirty with the kids.

That's what I thought!!

No way will any Airbnb rent to them and even if a parent is willing to book it for them they would be kicked out/not let check in once they arrived with no refund.

Air bnb terms are 18 and over
So no
Even so, chances of any Airbnb owner allowing teenagers to book is next to none (most will expect the booker to have at least 1 rental with 5 stars to their name and have sighted ID to instant book and if not will be very Hmm about a group of teens trying so book during that weekend.

If someone else books for them but isn't there, expect them to be kicked out with no refund and nowhere to stay.

If they don't want to campy then a hotel. There's a premier inn at Caversham

My v streetwise and v used to going out out 17 year old went to Reading last year
She was supposed to stay until the Monday but rang on Sunday late - at about midnight for me to collect her as it was all getting out of hand
Luckily we live near
I would think that nearby hotels are either full that weekend already or would not accept bookings from under 18 year olds
I would encourage them to leave right after the last act on Sunday if not earlier

Or go somweher fluffy like Womad where there is a good tent with bands, djs and the like for young folk and great music and vibes all round with folk who know how to behave themselves.

The hotels are all booked up already, I've tried!

Is there a reason why he doesn't want to camp? Isn't that part of the experience? Maybe Reading isn't for him and he should look to a different festival or just get a day ticket.

Lemme · 15/02/2023 08:35

He could book a camping plus pitch if he wants to stay away from the rabble? Sounds like a good idea given the horrors I heard about last year

With posh 'feral' children who go mildy wild at sundown but are actually lovely and very well behaved. 😀

Thx all - was just looking into the different options - didn't say he didn't want to camp!
Great too about leaving just after last act on the Sunday - thank you x

DD had Camping plus last year which was a lot calmer and more secure, with Security, toilets and showers. They pitched their tent and left all their belongings there but ended up staying in someone’s else’s tent in Orange camp site for 3 days. Camping plus was a bit too sedate apparently! 😂
